Big Brother 8

BB8 Joe

On Thursday’s eviction show we saw ol’ Joe hit the road after yet another mighty All vs. 1 vote (9 - 1 this time around, last week was 10 - 1 against Carol). So with such a strong house reaction to this nominee it’s worth taking a look at Joe’s three biggest strikes that caused his downfall. The first strike in the series was evident from the very first episode when we were treated to Joe’s loudmouth approach to everything. Watching Joe proclaim to 10 strangers, plus America mind you, that he suspected a past flame of giving him gonorrhea was a clear indicator this guy would hold nothing back. Being loud and obnoxious can draw you attention, but when you do it in a hateful way it’s gonna burn you. That incident wasn’t Joe’s only “loudmouth” offense. He was often quick to argue and slow to restraint. He seemed to enjoy making a dramatic show of things in front of everyone, including his argument with Jen regarding her pre-veto competition approach to control. Not a smart move to publicly and verbally abuse the HoH when she can still influence your stay in the game. Strike #1: Joe’s need for attention and his “get it any way I can” approach.

While I may feel that Jen did or said little of worth during her reign as HoH, I do think she nailed Joe’s negativity aspect. Joe’s second strike was his attitude. Just like his first strike, this guy was just plain obnoxious about everything. He verbally roughed up house guest after house guest and paraded around like he was the Queen Bee (no pun intended, well maybe a little). Clearly his attitude and behavior was doing very little for his game as Joe made it clear on Tuesday when he pointed out that he has no allies, no close friends in the game. While Nick might have blabbered on about “75% of his fun” came from Joe it still didn’t garner his vote for him to stay. Matter of fact, the only vote Joe got was from Kail because she was scared of Dick, not because she wanted Joe to stay. Not a single person wanted him to stay. None. Winner personality there Joe. That’s strike #2.

The third and final strike against Joe and his game style was his way of lying to everyone, including himself. Every time we turned around Joe was spewing some complete crap out to the closest ear he could find. From his “oh no, of course I won’t repeat what you just said, Jen,” to his “I have all the votes except yours,” it was a non-stop BS train. I think it might have gotten to the point where Joe was even lying to himself about the votes. He might have actually believed, at least for a little while, that he had secured the votes. When you set yourself up as a clear liar this early on in the game, especially over petty aspects of the game, you’ll gain no trust and therefore no allies. Joe managed to lie himself right out of the Big Brother 8 front door. Strike number three, Joe. You’re out. Big Brother 10 spoilers

I was watching the live feeds — Joe did almost have the votes for a little while. It was looking like 6-4 for a long time, and Nick lied to Joe for awhile saying Joe had his vote, which would have made it 5-5.

These near-unanimous votes are not what they seem, because people vote with the majority in order not to stand out if it looks like their candidate is losing.

Yeah, I was following what was going on there w/ his votes and it definitely swayed for awhile. But once things had settled overwhelmingly against Joe he continued to campaign and was telling people he had X number of votes when he knew he didn’t. Just like you pointed out about going w/ the majority he was trying to work people with the “you’re the last vote I need” as it’s more convincing than “you’re the only vote I have.”

I’m hoping we’ll get away from these lopsided votes, but that usually is pretty normal early on.
