The X-Men movie spin-off Wolverine looks to have finally settled on a director to tell the tortured past of our adamantium hero, Logan. Hugh Jackman has been signed on for awhile now to return to his role, but the director selection processed seemed to drag on. While Len Wiseman (Underworld) and DJ Caruso (Distrubia) has been considered the for job it finally instead went to Gavin Hood, director of 2005 Oscar winner Tsotsi. While it was a foreign film that I never saw I’m fairly confident in my guess that it was not a remake of Tootsie.
Filming is scheduled to begin this fall with a planned release sometime in 2008. Wolverine seems like a perfect summer blockbuster release to me, but they’d have to really start moving fast to make that cut off. The storyline is rumored to look back on Wolverine’s history and should provide plenty of insight to his “development” under the program Weapon X. That should make for one heck of a dark movie. Just the way a Wolverine storyline should be though.
