At first I was a little annoyed when I saw the trailer for The Invasion as its clearly a remake of an already great horror movie, Invasion of the Body Snatchers. I have a hard time accepting remakes of films I consider classics, but considering the 1978 version with Donald Sutherland was actually a remake of the 1956 original I guess I can’t be too upset. Though I’m a little concerned with the plot “twist” from the original storyline that our main character, played by Kidman, believes her son is the key to reversing the situation. Now what I loved from the 1978 version was the complete lack of hope. There was no “we can stop it if we do so and so” it was purely a waiting game. Sooner or later “it” would get you and you’d be one of them. Hopelessness is a key element to a great horror film, at least for me, so if that’s removed I’m not sure if this will elicit the same reaction. Despite my concerns I still believe I’ll see this one out of curiosity.
