Heroes

Heroes on NBC proved to be quite a pleasant surprise for me as I quickly picked it up following the disappointing start to 24. Having all the episodes online really helped get me into the story as I didn’t start watching until around episode 7. While you can always go back and watch those in the tiny window on your computer a better option is coming your way. Heroes - Season One is coming out on DVD and HD-DVD (awesome) at the end of next month. If you’ve missed this show so far this is the perfect time to catch up on what has been the most exciting and interesting drama I’ve seen on TV in years. I’m very anxious for the new season to start up so we can figure out just who survived the final episode and who didn’t. Considering how many characters were routinely knocked into oblivion I wouldn’t be surprised if more of them died than I’m expecting. I love it when a show/story isn’t afraid to dispatch a few characters along the way to remind everyone that no one is safe.

The box set for season 1 with seven full discs looks to have a lot of goodies, including the full, original unaired pilot episode. Speaking of unaired things, check out the deleted scene below from the series premiere where Matt Parkman (played by Greg Grunberg) initially used his powers in a different way. I’m glad they went with the original for the sake of the storyline far down the road, but it’s still interesting to see just one of the choices they had to make along the way. There also a cool look at the behind-the-scenes special effects. It’s funny to watch how many of the scenes weren’t real at all. Amazing how good they can make things look.

Highlights from Heroes - Season One on DVD:

  • Unaired Pilot: The Tim Kring Cut with Audio Commentary ? A full 73 uninterrupted minutes of the original, unaired, extended pilot episode, as Heroes? creator Tim Kring first envisioned it, with a character never seen.

  • Special Effects ? The secrets behind the eye-popping visuals that give the Heroes their amazing powers.

  • Mind Reader ? Matt Parkman?s mind reading abilities reveal your inner Hero with a series of simple tests.
