It has been quite a whirlwind of Pirate Master news over the past week. The biggest news being of course the cancellation of the series due to low ratings. I first became concerned about the series over last weekend when I noticed its absence from Tuesday’s CBS line-up. The news was later confirmed by CBS that they had decided to not air the final half dozen episodes. I was really amazed by this considering first off it’s the summer season where shows typically don’t do so well and secondly they were already this far into the series. Damn was I wrong.
Luckily for the dedicated viewers you will still be able to view each of the episodes, week by week, online at CBS. The video quality is mediocre and not nearly as good as when I was watching Heroes episodes on NBC. What was really frustrating was the 4th part (each episode is broken in parts to insert commercials between them) wouldn’t load. I keep restarting and forwarding through to the last part, but each time the system would return a server error. CBS needs to get this issue resolved if they are going to even bother putting these up.
While I wasn’t able to finish the show I did read ahead elsewhere and learned with shocking surprise that ol’ Captain Azmyth had been set adrift. My first thought was, “our first mutiny!” But no, it wasn’t a mutiny. Instead Azmyth’s team was dethroned during the challenge where Jay, Ben, Kendra, and Christa were first to the treasure. If you get a chance to go back and watch this challenge it was pretty entertaining just to watch Louie do his Frankenstein walk with the shackles. You’ll just have to watch it.
So with Azmyth removed from the equation I’m thinking our toughest pirate of the crew, Jay, has a real shot at winning this game. The next episode of Pirate Master is now available online at CBS.com. Each episode is being rolled out at midnight PST.

One more aspect of Pirate Master is some very sad news. Cheryl, who was set adrift during the 4th episode, was found dead this weekend with suicide being the suspected cause. Her death follows just two months after the suicide of her boyfriend. Cheryl had recently stated frustration over her involvement of the show which had added stress to their relationship. While I could speculate the cancellation of the show weighing heavily on someone who questioned their decision of involvement I have few details to establish that conclusion. It’s a sad turn of events and unfortunate for all those involved and our thoughts go out to her family.

Thankyou Matt for keeping us updated. I am an avid fan of Survivor, but I will be very cautious in following any CBS shows. So sad that Cheryl chose to end her life, I truly hope that it wasn’t because of Pirate Master…

No problem Jill, glad to put the updates out there for everyone. It really is disappointing that they’d do that to their viewers. I certainly hope Cheryl’s sad decision wasn’t influenced by the show either, that’d be terrible.
Check back tomorrow for a recap of this week’s show as well. Things are getting a good bit more cut throat these days.

I despise the producers for cancelling this show…as a dedicated “watcher” I take this personally!…do you really think that I will ever watch your shows again?…Western Australia only gets “re-runs” we {the ignorant} trust that we will see our weekly shows…HMMM!! wrong!!! All that we are left with are “re-runs” of The Simpsons {only those on drugs would watch this pathetic “puppet” show!}…Never watched “Idol”, nor “Big Brother” as these type of shows do not interest me. Please COMPLETE Pirate Master in a format that we can see!!!!

I want Pirate Master to come back on TV. Will they sell the series on DVD. I can not watch the shows on my computer. I would sure love to see this play out till the end. Can anyone burn me copies of the rest of the show. I have all the ones before it was canceled saved on my t-vo system. If any one can get me the last 5 episodes I would really appreciate it. paws101@aol.com

Sorry to see Kendra go, but it was her time!!! Now let’s hope the next episode will eliminate JAY. How dare he control the fate of the game. It should be played with the hardest possible effort and with the thought of being the winner, first team and then individual. Jay does think of winning but is too cunning with control over the entire crew especially the Captain. His turn will come. Good-bye JAY I am truly sorry Pirate Master did not connect with the audience. I will be one that will really miss the show. It is amazing what the audience will tolerate on TV. Come on Pirate Master is one of the better reality shows out there this summer. Get with it CBS.

Oh I want to see Jay win just because he’s been so tricky.
I agree that it’s been my favorite new reality show of the season. The newest episode went online today, so I’ll get the recap of that up soon. I agree that CBS screwed up.

I am REALLY dissappointed in CBS!!! Why would they put a brand new reality show on then cancel midway only to replace it with reruns. No offence, but that is really DUMB!!! During the summer there are hardly any new shows for us avid TV watchers.
Thanks a lot!

I don’t get it either. How they’re doing better with old repeats I’d never watch versus a show I was watching is beyond me. Bad move CBS.

Pirate Master was listed to be shown at 2pm last Sunday…you guessed it…we got a re-run of Everybody {apart from me} Loves Raymond….grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!! I hope someone can post a written version of what has been happening, I am as frustrated as you are.
Cheers from down-under.

Sorry to say, Jay is not my favorite. At this point I think Christa should win. She is a good player, used her head thoughout her reign as Captain making it never look like her decision mattered. She is smart and has the strength to beat the men. It took guts for Ben to be honest and I truly felt sorry for Louie. Louie was everyone’s friend and yes he played with his heart. A true Pirate has no heart. That would be the only reason why Jay should win. Ben has played the game but he gets outplayed on every angle. He is always second man. I have enjoyed your comments and wonder why CBS gave up on this show. It has been a favorite this summer, and I will be saddened to see it end next week.
