Last night we saw Nick evicted from the Big Brother 8 house. As I look back over Nick’s somewhat short stay I’m trying to identify a three-strike list similar to the past evicted houseguests (Carol, Joe, and Mike) and it’s not as easy to find as many mistakes. That’s not to say Nick didn’t make mistakes, because he really did, but instead his mistakes seemed to be focus in one area: showmances. From the very start we saw that Nick considered himself quite the Casanova as he began flirting with many of the ladies in the house. While we’ve seen male players in the past use the presence of women to their advantage as body shields (Will and Shannon, season 2) I think Nick strayed closer to Jase and Holly behavior and this was a major part of his downfall.
So when the season started Nick was bouncing from Amber to Jen to Daniele. This wasn’t such a bad plan as they were all somewhat getting interested in him. But for some reason he decided to focus his love energy on the one girl that would be least likely to fully accept him, Daniele, due to her existing relationship outside the house. Not only was this a bad selection due to Daniele’s unavailability but because he forgot about his other flirtations along the way. While Amber got over this quickly Jen was not so fast to forgive and actually became rather bitter towards both Nick and Daniele over her rejection. This nearly led to his nomination during week 2 when Jen ruled as HoH and came close to naming his as Daniele replacement instead of Joe.
During Nick’s 4 week stay in the house he didn’t manage to win one thing on his own. This makes me wonder just how strong of a player he really was for Big Brother 12. Many people in the house considered him to be a threat, but this must have been based on his physical appearance and his potential to be dangerous further down the road. But instead of trying to use his imposing presence to appear as a leader and protector of a group of people he applied this mostly to Daniele and Dick to win their approval.
It really comes down to the fact that Nick forgot why he was in the house and spent his time chasing skirt instead of chasing the half million dollar prize money. Nick even admitted this during the week as he realized his fatal game play error when it was far too late to do anything about it. I’m still rather surprised that he wasn’t able to at least swing a couple more votes last night. All he would have needed was for Daniele and Dick to support him to force a tie breaker, though I’m pretty sure Dustin would have still gone against him at that point. So after all that showmancing it wasn’t even enough to win the votes of his love interest Daniele and her father Dick.
Nick, you left the game empty handed. I can’t possibly imagine that a girl who lived half way across the country and already had a boyfriend was possibly worth passing up on half a million dollars. I’m just hoping that Eric doesn’t start to fall into the same trap as his relationship with Jessica slowly builds. I think Eric is smarter than that though, but time will tell. Big Brother 8: Week 7 Nomination Recap - August 19, 2007 | Wild Bluff Media : Entertainment Examined

I don’t think anyone can base the strength of any player on the amount of competitions they have won or their physical appearance. Prime example is Dr. Will. He never won one single competition and certainly was not physically built, but he won season 2 and came very close to winning again last year.
Nick’s downfall was trust with the other house guest. He did not open himself up and talk that much about strategy with any other players than Dick and Daniel. He did some with Amber and Jemeka.
The house guest started to doubt him and even Nick stated to Daniel, “You may trust me 95% now but when I leave you will trust me 100%”. Daniel has already admitted that this was right. Through things now revealed in the house she knows that Nick was not the one double talking. Her suspicions of Erik’s game play grows.
