Weekend Movie Preview logo

Plenty of good movie options this weekend once again. I’m glad to have the problem of too many movies rather than nothing interesting. The options are spread out as well. You’ve got a fantastic action movie, the final in the Bourne series, coming out if that’s your thing. Then there’s the lighter Hot Rod movie with SNL’s Andy Samberg’s hilarious antics. If you’ve got kids in your movie going party then there are even a couple of options for you with Underdog and Bratz. Good luck with those two. My movie plans this weekend are to see The Bourne Ultimatum and Hot Rod. What about you?

Here are all your movie details & trailers for this weekend, August 3 - 5, 2007.

The Bourne Ultimatum poster

The Bourne Ultimatum
Starring: Matt Damon, Joan Allen, Julia Stiles
Director: Paul Greengrass, Peter MacDonald
Genre: Action/Adventure, Thriller, Adaptation and Sequel
Rated: PG-13 for violence and intense sequences of action.
Duration: 1hr 51mins
Plot: All he wanted was to disappear; instead, Jason Bourne is now hunted by the people who made him what he is–legendary assassin. Having lost his memory and the one person he loved, he is undeterred by the barrage of bullets and a new generation of highly-trained killers. Bourne has only one objective: to go back to the beginning and find out who he was.
My Take: I’ve really enjoyed the previous two films in this trilogy and with initial reviews saying it’s the best in the series I’m very excited to see this one. The Bourne Ultimatum is definitely on my movie watch this list weekend.

Hot Rod poster

Hot Rod
Starring: Andy Samberg, Isla Fisher, Jorma Taccone, Bill Hader
Director: Akiva Schaffer
Genre: Comedy
Rated: PG-13 for crude humor, language, some comic drug-related and violent content.
Plot: Rod Kimble, a self-proclaimed stuntman, is convinced he has bravery in his blood. He’s grown up believing he’s the son of Evel Knievel’s test-rider, a courageous stuntman who died in his prime. Rod is committed to fulfilling his father’s legacy. Only problem is–he sucks!
My Take: I can’t get enough of Samberg’s humor on SNL so I’m quite anxious to see his first big movie. I’m relieved that it’s not a character port from the show too as those aren’t always the best things.

Underdog

Underdog
Starring: Alex Neuberger, Diz White (II), Peter Dinklage, Jason Lee
Director: Frederik Du Chau
Genre: Comedy, Kids/Family and Adaptation
Rated: PG for crude humor, mild language and action.
Plot: A bumbling watchdog gets exposed to a substance that gives him the powers of a superhero. He is adopted by a 12-year-old boy and uses his superpower to protect his love and the citizens of Capitol City from the evil Simon Barsinister.
My Take: Ugh. I hope this is at least good for the kids.
Underdog Movie Trailer:

Bratz poster

Bratz
Starring: Nathalia Ramos, Skyler Shaye, Janel Parrish, Logan Browning
Director: Sean McNamara
Genre: Comedy and Kids/Family
Rated: PG for thematic elements.
Duration: 1hr 50mins
Plot: Four teenage girls who come from different social and economic backgrounds empower themselves by rejecting their respective high school cliques and band together, calling themselves Bratz.
My Take: This movie considers itself above Paula Abdul as we saw in one of her reality show breakdowns. But why would they go for almost 2 hours? I’m thinking 80 mins should have been its target there.
Bratz Movie Trailer:

El Cantante poster

El Cantante
Starring: Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez
Director: Leon Ichaso
Genre: Drama, Musical/Performing Arts and Biopic
Rated: R for drug use, pervasive language and some sexuality.
Plot: The dramatic-biography of Puerto Rican salsa pioneer Hector Lavoe, one of the biggest Spanish-language singers in the 1970s. The tale follows Lavoe’s passionate relationship with his love Puchi, and his skyrocket to international fame. But even when he has it all, Lavoe is unable to escape the allure of drugs and his personal pain.
My Take: Do what? This one really snuck into theaters, and gee considering Lopez track record for starring in movies opposite her lover (Gigli) I don’t know why they’d try this.
