Last week on Design Star I wasn’t surprised that Lisa was dismissed, but I don’t necessarily think she was the worst performer. Robb and Organic Josh had the crappiest area with Robb’s poor wall decorations and Josh’s weak carpentry work. What I think saved them was that they were a pair and it was more difficult to blame one more than the other. Lisa, however, was working on her own which made her an easier target. Lisa’s selections weren’t my favorite, but she at least had a decorating vision and completed it with creativity. Her problem really was that the judging panel didn’t like her style, so even if she hadn’t been bumped this first week she was going to have problems all season. Plus, keeping Robb and Organic Josh (OJ) ensures plenty more drama!

Okay, here we go with week 2 of the new season of Design Star on HGTV. We’re down to only ten designers left and this week there will be two teams with a real HGTV style challenge: redesign a kitchen. A pair of neighbors have opened their homes to the Design Star teams and they’ll be coming in to provide some desperately needed renovations. The teams are headed up by a randomly selected designer along with “playground style” team picks. Guess who gets picked last? I’ll give you a hint: green room temper flares. The teams come out really uneven as its nearly boys versus girls though you’ll have to watch and see how it affects their work.

In the end one of the teams walks away from their 3 day project unfinished! This should make for a pretty compelling reason to select the two designers that will be going home tonight. That’s right, 2 designers are eliminated tonight. I guess they’re making up for having the extra designer this season. I know who I’d pick to be sent home out of this bunch, but we’ll have to wait and see what the judges think.
