This weekend Matt Damon returned as Jason Bourne in The Bourne Ultimatum (movie review) to get answers to his past and take over as the #1 box office movie with a huge $70.18 million. The action was great and it was an exciting movie, but if you haven’t seen the first two you’ll be lost on the details. The Simpsons Movie still pulled in a very respectable $25.6 million on its second weekend out. I was very surprised to see Underdog (read our movie review) grab the #3 with $12 million. The other new releases didn’t fare nearly as well. Hot Rod only earned $5 million, but squeaked out ahead of Bratz with $4.3 million and El Cantante with $3.2 million. Now to be fair to El Cantante, it was only in 542 theaters versus Hot Rod and Bratz with 2607 and 1509 theaters each, respectively. My review for Hot Rod will be up tomorrow morning, but if you’re looking for something to do this afternoon I’ll warn you now, give it a pass.
