Big Brother 8

Amber Jameka BB8

So wow, I’m watching the live feeds tonight on Big Brother 8 and was a little bit stunned by the anti-Semitic crap that was pouring out of Amber’s mouth to her fellow houseguest Jameka. While I’m certainly bothered by what Amber is saying I wish Jameka had done a little more than quietly discounting what Amber says. Well to be fair Jameka tries to correct Amber’s course well after she’s done ranting. So in case you missed it, here’s Amber stinking up the house with her racist attitude, oh, and she brings down her sister and mom with her. Be patient with my transcription though as Amber can’t form an actual sentence when she talks. She jumps around a lot. Regardless, here is Amber spewing her ignorant views:

~5:30 PM PST [Amber and Jameka relaxing outside and talking alone]

Amber: …He [Eric] was talking and he was like from New York and I remember thinking, “How typical he’s from New York. People from NY are f**ked up.”

Jameka: Don’t say that.

Amber: Huh?

Jameka: Don’t say that.

Amber: Everybody I know. The majority of people I know from New York are Jewish and the majority of Jewish people I know, my gosh, so many are so selfish. So weird. Even my sister always tells me, she’s like my sister and my mom will meet someone and I’ll be like, “I don’t like that person. That person doesn’t seem like a very good person to me,” and my mom and sister are like “You know why?” Why? “They’re Jewish.” How do you know? “Amber you can tell by their last name, you can tell by their nose.” I’m like, really?

They go on from there and Amber discusses how she thinks Dustin is Jewish, though Jameka disputes this as he told her he was Christian. Amber doesn’t seem to have had enough though as she’s back for more:

Amber: Is Eric still over there?

Jameka: No.

Amber: My mom and my sister, I kid you not, always, I’m like I don’t like this person, you know why, every time, my mom’s like, the one girl we worked with, she’s from New York, every time I make a point about someone being selfish or greedy, every time, she’s so greedy, there’s a good person in the station… [garble] …she’s so selfish and greedy I started telling my mom about her and she’s like “I bet she’s Jewish” so when I went to work I was like “Are you Jewish” and she’s like “Uh huh”. And I was like, “oh wow.”

Jameka: You gotta be careful how that’s coming across though because you don’t want to be labeled as…

Amber: Oh yeah

Jameka: …Don’t just make a blanket statement like that

Too late.

Amber then goes on about how she used to do drugs and how it’s affected her memory in the game. Such a nice girl, eh? What the hell is wrong with her? She’s on national television and 24 hours live feeds and she’s spouting this kind of crap? I hope her daughter has better influences in her life than just this woman.

Update (8/9/07): Found the clip on YouTube so you can see for yourself how bad Amber is:

Update (8/9/07): CBS released the following statement regarding Amber’s racist comments:

“BIG BROTHER is a reality show about watching a group of people who have no privacy 24/7 - and seeing every moment of their lives. At times, the Houseguests reveal prejudices and other beliefs that we do not condone. We certainly find the statements made by Amber Siyavus on the live Internet feed to be offensive and they will not be part of any future broadcast on the CBS Television Network. Any views or opinions expressed in personal commentary by a Houseguest appearing on BIG BROTHER 8, either on any live feed from the House or the broadcast, are those of the individual(s) speaking and do not represent the views or opinions of CBS or the producers of the program.”

Avoid missing anymore of Amber’s crap and check out the online, uncensored live feeds (14 day free trial) and see what is going on right now.

    You’re right—”TOO LATE”

But it’s important to note that these views didn’t come to Amber out of the blue…her MOTHER and SISTER have obviously been drilling her all her life with this disgusting crap. It’s like she’s the “Mel Gibson” of BB house. lolol

I never thought anyone would top BB6’s Maggie and her moaning about “having to go back to work, wiping her patients’ ….” Well, it was pretty horrible remark, forever erasing any thoughts of Maggie being a compassionate or caring nurse.

Just proves that as unnatural as it seems at first, to be surrounded by cameras showing your every move and word…people eventually forget and the “real” stuff is revealed.

  2. Matt

That’s a very good point. She’s been very influenced by her family’s views. I really hope she doesn’t pass these ideas on to her daughter, but I’m worried it’ll happen.

  3. bigeesshh

Who gives a s***, she is is entitled to her opinion. Whether you agree or not, people are to sensitive about their culture, ethnic group and religion.

  4. Matt

Bigotry no big deal, huh? I’m glad Amber’s mom (or is this her sister?) could stop by.

  5. bigeesshh

Neither….. I wonder why the other links didn’t make a big deal of it either. LOL

  6. bigeesshh

But in all fairness, I don’t necessarily agree with the comments either. Some people get more upset about comments to their back ground then others. I also think Amber and Jameka are both being hypocritical using their Christain faith guide them too. But way make a mole hill into a mountain, especially in the BB house. LMFAO

  7. Matt

I’m not the only one, just the first. RTC added something today on it:

  8. Judy

People are “too sensitive? It’s stereotypes like those that Amber talked about that fan the flames of hatred and distrust of one ethnic group for another. I would be just as upset if she had said “all blacks are on welfare” (a common fallacy), or “all Irish are drunks”….It’s ALL unacceptable and should end with new generations of children, not propagated.

  9. bigeesshh

Oh well, I guess poor little Eric will have to wait and see what Amber said about him. It maybe sooner then l8tr.

  10. bigeesshh

I just read it in Big Sister’s Report.

  11. bigeesshh

Did you get upset when Dick was being critical of Kail being a Christain during the HOH competion? Were you upset when Dick made the comment about the poor starving children in Africa? I believe you were not, you only got upset when Amber said “Jewish people are greedy and self centered”. I just wanted to point out the hypocrisy, talk about being “over sensitive” people. What Dick and Amer say are just meaningless and people need to start growing a backbone and buck up.

  12. Matt

Difference is that Dick was criticizing Kail on her behavior, saying she wasn’t being a model Christian. If he had said he hated Christians and therefore hated her it’d be similar. On starving children in Africa: well, there are starving children in Africa and many other countries as Jameka said. If Dick had said, “I saw an African child and figured it must be starving and has AIDS,” then that would have been racist.

But for Amber to be having a casual discussion where she details that her mother and sister have taught her that if she doesn’t like someone it’s probably because they’re Jewish. That’s terribly dangerous because Amber (or anyone with those ideas) can develop the mindset that anyone they met that is Jewish is “selfish and greedy”, regardless of reality. It’s just like Judy said, these stereotypes fan fires that we don’t need and instead highlight ignorance that should no longer be tolerated.

There is a difference between these situations you’ve listed.

  13. Judy

Well put, Matt–Sheesh is just grasping at straws to excuse Amber’s statements.

  14. bigeesshh

I wouldn’t say I was grabbing at straws, I think Matt is with his response but by the reactions of Jameka and Kail they seemed offended by Dick’s comments. I guess you don’t recall Jameka calling Dick out during the HOH and saying that comment was not appropriate and I guess you don’t recall when Jameka got upset and made the comment there are other children that are starving besides in Africa. All I am stating is that what Amber said is only words to me, and people on these bloggs making a big deal about what she said is only making the situation worse. Like the old saying goes “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me.” I also find what Dick said was not offensive either, I kinda of like the guy. If I could I would give you guys a big cyber hug.

  15. Judy

Read your history, Sheeshie–It was words, innuendos, rhetoric…that the Nazis filled the German’s heads with when they needed scapegoats for the country’s social and economic ills.

On a “black comedy” note though..it occurs to me the only productive result of Amber’s antisemitism would be for Dick to convince her it was in everyone’s best interest to get rid of the “New York Jew”

    lololooloololol just kidding, of course

  16. J Scott

Amber’s comments epitomize the trailer trash that she is. Sounds like jealously — while she lives in squalor in a dump in Vegas, all the Jewish people are sitting there selfishly in NYC with all their money? Well, Les Moonves, a memeber of a tribe she loathes, should tell his wife to lay into that idiot.

  17. bigeesshh

You know what, I am surprised that Dick hasn’t tried to do that as of yet.

  18. Matt

FOX News is running an article about Amber’s racist remarks as well:
    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,292499,00.html

  19. Matt

Of course I remember those things happening as I already noted “as Jameka said” regarding the children in Africa.

Kail and Jameka were not surprisingly personally offended by Dick’s comments. Dick’s comments indirectly offended Jameka. Dick’s comments directly offended Kail. But they were both taken on a personal level about a specific situation. Racist stereotypes are exactly that, gross generalizations applied to all people of a group regardless of reality. “Sticks and stones” all you want, but saying “Jewish people are greedy and selfish” is bigotry and racist. I hardly consider denouncing racism as “grabbing at straws” and I’m sorry you would belittle that.

I would prefer you recognizing the dangers of racism over a hug.

  20. Matt

CNN ran a segment on it as well as noted by TV Squad.

  22. bigbrotheriswatchingusall

Amber reminds me of Cartman from South Park.

  23. Matt

Hah, you’re right. Well as long as she hates hippies too.

  24. jen

Is it against the law to be racist? If thats how she feels who are any of you to question it. every person in the world has some prejudice. I learned that in 3rd grade. Get over yourselves and quit judging others. people in glass houses.

  25. Matt

Sure it can be against the law to be racist (not hiring someone based on race or not renting to someone for the same reason is illegal), but that’s not solely the problem here. Amber is displaying a history of inherited racism from her family and is showing that she doesn’t like a broad category of people based upon a slim margin she has encountered. Amber is also a mother and could be filling her child with these same ignorant, racist views thereby contributing to yet another generation instilled with unfounded hate.

Well heck, if you “learned that in 3rd grade” it must be a valuable and world wide lesson for us all. What does that have to do with anything?

I’m glad the world didn’t “get over itself and quit judging others” as Hitler stuffed people into gas chambers and furnaces based on their ethnic background.

It saddens me to see how many people out there need to “unlearn” such a dangerous practice as racism.

You might be right that every person has some prejudice. Take me for example, I hate racists and bigots. What’s yours?
