This weekend wasn’t as kind to trilogies as last weekend. Rush Hour 3 pulled in a not-too-shabby $50.2M, but considering all the costs (Tucker was paid higher than Tom Cruise or Eddie Murphy for this one) I imagine the studio was hoping for something more Bourne-like opening weekend. The Bourne Ultimatum had a great weekend that would have pleased most opening movies with $33.6M. The other new movies this weekend didn’t do so hot. Stardust, which looked decreasingly good to me as time passed didn’t break the $10M point despite it’s star studded cast (DeNiro, Phiffer, Danes, Miller). Then there was the “should have been straight to DVD” Daddy Day Camp which despite opening mid-week barely broke $5M. Don’t forget Skinwalkers, wait it looks like America already did, as it came in at #18 (yes, that’s right) with about $0.5 million. Ah well, better luck next weekend (Superbad!!).
