Oh yeah! Here we go, it’s a movie filled weekend ahead for this guy right here. I’m very psyched for Superbad coming out today and that is number one on my list. After such a dud set of movies last weekend I was aching for something good and I think this fits the bill. I’m also planning to catch The Invasion, a remake of the classic remake (this will actually be the 4th time it’s been made) The Invasion of the Body Snatchers. This isn’t supposed to be too good, but I decided awhile back I’d include it, so here we go anyways. The Last Legion comes out as well for those King Arthur-ish fans. Then the oddly interesting King of Kong (nothing to do with the Peter Jackson remake) will be hitting a limited release as well. I think I’ll wait for video on that one, but it still looks like fun. Are any of these movies in your plans for the weekend?
Here are all your movie details & trailers for this weekend, August 17 - 19, 2007.

Superbad
Starring: Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Seth Rogen
Director: Greg Mottola
Genre: Comedy
Rated: R for pervasive crude and sexual content, strong language, drinking, some drug use and a fantasy/comic violent image.
Duration: 1hr 54mins
Plot: Two co-dependent high school guys want to hook up with girls before they graduate and go off to different colleges, but, after a calamitous night just trying to buy alcohol for a school party, overcoming their separation anxiety becomes a greater challenge than getting the girls.
My Take: This looks awesome and is my #1 movie pick for the weekend. I thought Apatow had also directed this one, but I guess he was just involved as a producer. So if you’ve been enjoying his other stuff (Knocked Up, 40yr old Virgin) then you’ll likely enjoy this one as well, I hope. Be prepared though as the clips I’ve seen make this to clearly not be a kid friendly movie.
Superbad Movie Trailer:

The Invasion:
Starring: Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig
Director: Oliver Hirschbiegel
Genre: Action / Drama / Horror / Sci-Fi / Thriller / Remake
Rated: PG-13 for violence, disturbing images and terror.
Plot: The Invasion tells the story of a mysterious epidemic that alters the behavior of human beings. When a Washington D.C. psychiatrist (Nicole Kidman) discovers the epidemic’s origins are extraterrestrial, she must fight to protect her son, who may hold the key to stopping the escalating invasion.
My Take: I loved the 70’s remake with Sutherland and although I still plan to see this one be warned the reviews have been anything but flattering. You might just want to stick to watching the old version again instead.
The Invasion Movie Trailer:

The Last Legion
Starring: Colin Firth, Ben Kingsley, Aishwarya Rai
Director: Doug Lefler
Genre: Action/Adventure, Drama and Adaptation
Rated: PG-13 for sequences of intense action violence.
Duration: 1 hr. 41 min.
Plot: A soldier escapes the crumbling Roman empire as barbarians descend upon his land. He embarks on a fantastic adventure where he forms a band of legionaries determined to save his emperor.
My Take: I have zero interest in seeing this. It’s got Colin Firth as an action hero? I didn’t know he did things outside Bridget Jones movies. He’ll be up there swinging his sword and the other soldiers will be snickering because he’s wearing a goofy Christmas sweater from his mom over his armor. Oh the British are so clever in their sophisticated humor (or humour if you’d prefer). Then there’s the Bollywood megastar Aishwarya Rai who I have no interest in seeing either. She’s even less believable as a warrior to me than First could be.
The Last Legion Movie Trailer:

The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters
Starring: Billy Mitchell, Walter Day, Steve Wiebe
Director: Seth Gordon
Genre: Documentary
Rated: PG-13 for brief sexual references
Plot: A middle-school science teacher and a hot sauce mogul vie for the Guinness World Record on the arcade classic, Donkey Kong.
My Take: This is a limited release, which I usually don’t include, but I’ll make an exception this time as I’ve been hearing about this for a long time. This isn’t a joke/comedy but is instead a documentary on some Donkey Kong obsessed grown men. Could be interesting from a “I’m so grateful to not bad that video game obsessive” kinda way.
