After seven weeks of “jenuine” entertainment and often not so “jenius” maneuvers Jen, the nanny from CA, was evicted by the first unanimous vote of the season, 6 to 0. Now that’s some achievement considering there were only five people voting (catch up on all the penalty vote details here). On the eviction couch with Julie Jen described herself as “random” and she had come to the BB8 house to teach people “good things”. Considering Jen is a nanny and helping to shape young minds I shudder at what she might consider to be the “good things” she teaches to those children. Clearly I’m no fan of Jen or her game play and I don’t think I was the only one, especially in the house. However, personality alone won’t usually sink a player’s game, so let’s see where else Jen went wrong this BB8 season.

Upon arriving in the house Jen seemed to alienate herself from the other house guests. She seemed to be operating in an opposite fashion of Kail who rushed into setting up her alliances and that didn’t work either. Maybe Jen didn’t like the other people, but this game isn’t about making friends (Dustin’s mistake) but about making strategic partnerships (Eric and Jessica’s strong point). Jameka noted in her farewell video to Jen that she thought she was obnoxious and self-centered the first few weeks and then got used to her. I think most the house learned to simply tolerate Jen rather than enjoy her company. Jen really needed to learn to work this crowd better by trying to be part of the mob rather than shining over it. First conform, then stand out. Jen tried to reverse that method and we saw how well it worked. Strike #1, Jen couldn’t manage to make one sincere friend in the house.
While I didn’t care much for Jen’s personality I’m willing to admit she was doing alright from the neck down. I thought for sure she’d try to use that angle a little more to help her along and keep her safe in times of danger. But after her failed attempt with Nick she seemed to shut down this avenue and other than her revealing bikinis she didn’t do much to use her sexuality to her advantage. Considering Creepy Zach’s penchant for, well, creepiness I think Jen could have gotten a lot further with him as well as the rest of guys, even, dare I say it, Dick. Dick seems to be about as much of a dirty old man as they come and I think Jen could have worked him around her finger had she been willing and had approached him better from the start. Strike two would be not using those assets like you said you would in your intro video.
Jen’s biggest roadblock wasn’t even really her fault, though she often exacerbated the situation. Dick and Jen were like water and oil and I really believe that had Dick been absent from this season’s line up Jen could have done a lot better. Considering how Daniele and Jen nearly got friendly there from time to time I think they could have possibly partnered up. But with Dick in the coop Jen had to focus most her energy on deflecting his attacks and character assassinations. While this situation got worse and worse there was finally a plateau where Dick offered peace and Jen accepted. Unfortunately this happened way too late in the game to have any lasting benefits to her game. I would have pushed for this agreement sooner, though with Dick in the mix you’re really at his mercy. Strike number three: fanning the flames of a pointless ego battle. That’s it Jen, you’re out.
Jen was a tough character to examine this season as it was difficult to assess where the BB8 Jen stopped and the “real” Jen began. We heard her mother detail how smart of a girl Jen was growing up, so I’d like to think she thought she was doing the right thing and was just acting a part. Overall though, Jen came across as a spoiled little brat (jumping up and down, smashing cigarettes like a child) who felt her mere existence translated into entitlement. “I am, therefore I deserve.” When she started up with “I don’t want to go to sequester. I want to stay and play games.” I was really disappointed to watch as she converted into such immature, childish behavior even in what were obviously her final hours. There were few redeeming qualities in this girl who rolled her eyes at nominations, cried over her picture, and broke the agreements she made as part of the game. I certainly won’t be missing Jen at all the rest of this season and I don’t think I’m alone, well except maybe for the person who called me an “IDIOT”.
