Woohoo! The new season of Dancing with the Stars is set to begin on Monday September 24th at 8/7c. Yesterday ABC announced the couples who would be dancing this season. For the first time there will be twelve couples. Season 5 will begin with a three night event with the women dancing on the first night, the men on the second, and the first elimination (not to mention a performance by Dolly Parton) on the third. In case you missed it here are the couples for this season:

Melanie Brown and Maksim Chmerkovsky (4th Season):
Melanie Brown, also known as Mel B or Scary Spice from the spice girls has most recently been in the news for accusing Eddie Murphy of being the father of her child.

Sabrina Bryan and Mark Ballas (1st Season):
Sabrina Bryan will be familiar to any of you with pre-teen kids as on of the Disney Channel’s all-girl singing group the Cheetah Girls.

Helio Castroneves and Julianne Hough (2nd Season):
Helio Castroneves is a Brazilian race car driver who has won the Indy 500 twice. He is partnered with last season’s winning pro Julianne Hough (the lucky dog).

Mark Cuban and Kym Johnson (3rd Season):
Mark Cuban is the former dot-com genius turned eccentric billionaire, who owns the Dallas Mavericks. Cuban is a kind of a weird dude. I feel bad for Kym. I don’t have high hopes for this couple and the season hasn’t even started yet.

Jennie Garth and Derek Hough (1st Season):
Jennie Garth was one of the stars of Beverly Hills: 90210. Back in the day, when the show was at its peak I will admit I had a little crush on her. Her partner Derek Hough has appeared on DWTS before but not as part of a celebrity couple. He is Julianne’s brother. I’m kinda rooting for this couple already.

Josie Maran and Alec Mazo (3rd Season):
Josie Maran is a model best know for her appearances in the Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Issue. She is young and athletic and has long legs like Stacy Kiebler.With Alec being the winning pro from DWTS Season 1, I think we have a strong couple here.

Cameron Mathison and Edyta Sliwinska (5th Season!):
Cameron Mathison is a soap opera actor. Edyta as you may know is the only one of the pros to have appeared now in all five seasons of DWTS.

Floyd Mayweather and Karina Smirnoff (3rd Season):
“Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather is a six-time world champion boxer. He is one of our two sports figures this season. Now the question is, will he be an Emmitt Smith or a Clyde Drexler.

Wayne Newton and Cheryl Burke (4th Season):
Its Wayne Newton, what else is there to say. Well, actually, Wayne is getting up there in years and despite Cheryl’s best efforts we may end up with another Jerry Springer on our hands. Cheryl it should be noted though is the only two time winner of DWTS.

Marie Osmond and Jonathon Roberts (4th Season):
Marie Osmond formerly of Donny & Marie is well known to anyone who watched TV in the 70’s or has seen QVC the past couple of years (she hocks her own line of dolls). Marie used to dance as well as sing so that should be a plus for her, but she too is getting a little long in the tooth.

Albert Reed and Anna Trebunskaya (2nd Season):
I have no idea who this dude is. They say he is a model but I never heard of him before.

Jane Seymour and Tony Dovolani (4th Season):
Jane Seymour is probably one of the best known actresses on the face of the planet. She has always been known for her class and elegance. Hopefully this will shine through on the dance floor for her.
