Okay, last weekend was a let down on movies but this weekend should totally redeem the theaters. We’ve got three main releases consisting of two action movies and one comedy. 3:10 to Yuma starring Christian Bale and Russell Crowe is a Western remake that looks like it’ll easily take the trophy home as the top earner. This looks like a great movie and is on the top of my movie list for the weekend. The next action movie is Shoot ‘Em Up, an over the top action movie starring Clive Owen as the dark hero. Then there’s the comedy movie starring a couple of funny guys in a potential dud with The Brothers Solomon. I’ve enjoyed both Will Forte and Will Arnett in the past, but I won’t be seeing this one unless it gets raving reviews to change my mind. You’ve got a couple of decent options this weekend, as long as you like action movies. If not, hopefully the weather is nice where you are!

Plot: A rancher struggles to support his ranch and family during a long drought. Desperately needing money to build a well, he takes an assignment to transport a notorious felon, in the hands of authorities, to Yuma for imprisonment. But, once the two meet, the criminal tries to tempt him with–in exchange for allowing him to escape–an offer of much more money than the rancher ever expected, the result of a hidden loot.
My Take: Um, yes. I’m very excited for this. I may not be a fan of Crowe’s rough personality, but he’s a great actor. Christian Bale has rising so high so fast with smart, smart movie selections and this looks like another of the same. I’ll be seeing this one this afternoon.

Plot: Mr. Smith, the angriest, most hardboiled man in the world, finds himself entrusted to protect the most innocent thing of all–a newborn child. When Smith delivers the baby in the middle of a gunfight, he soon discovers that the infant is the target of a shadowy force that has sent a team of mysterious and endless assailants, led by Hertz, to erase all traces of the baby.
My Take: Clive Owen is great and Monica Bellucci is beautiful, so consider me interested. I’d like to see this one but I’ll admit it doesn’t look like it’ll be the best movie of the year. Should be some good action fun though. Shoot Em Up is on my movie list.

Rated: R for language and sexual content.
Plot: Brothers John and Dean Solomon are on a quest to find a woman–any woman–willing to bear their child and fulfill the wish of their dying father. After a few dating disasters, it looks as if the brothers may beat the odds and find what they’re looking for when Dean meets a woman eager to have his baby. Unfortunately, she is flattened by a passing bus right before his eyes. Undeterred, the single-minded brothers change tactics, ditching conventional dating to try their luck with, in short succession, a street hooker, an adoption agency and finally, the Craigslist website.
My Take: I just can’t. I just can’t go see this. It has received next to no marketing and the plot sounds terrible. I think both these guys can be really funny, but not this time around.
