Russell Crowe is teaming back up with Ridley Scott for “Body of Lies”, a post 9/11 thriller costarring Leonardo DiCaprio. “Body of Lies” is based on the novel by the same name from Washington Post columnist David Ignatius. Crowe and Scott previously worked together on Gladiator and the less popular A Good Year with their other project, American Gangster, on its way to theaters soon. Crowe is currently in the Baltimore, Maryland area filming scenes while DiCaprio is set to arrive next week for his scenes to be filmed there. The Maryland region is to be used in lieu of England and Germany. Um, okay.

The story from “Body of Lies: A Novel” looks like it could be pretty good, especially with this high profile cast working on it:

Roger Ferris is one of the CIA’s soldiers in the war on terrorism. He has come out of Iraq with a shattered leg and an intense mission—to penetrate the network of a master terrorist known only as “Suleiman.” Ferris’s plan for getting inside Suleiman’s tent is inspired by a masterpiece of British intelligence during World War II: He prepares a body of lies, literally the corpse of an imaginary CIA officer who appears to have accomplished the impossible by recruiting an agent within the enemy’s ranks.

I’m familiar with the history behind the trick from England where they planted fake information on a corpse while pretending the body belonged to a completely fictional character, “Operation Mincemeat“. Sounds cool. I’ve heard the movie may deviate from the book, as often happens, and we might not get a physical body as part of the “body of lies”. I’m looking forward to seeing how they handle that.
