Weekend Movie Preview logo

The weekend couldn’t come soon enough this week. Last weekend offered up several good movies, including 3:10 to Yuma and Shoot ‘Em Up. This weekend seems to be a mixed bag. First you’ve got another vigilante justice movie with Jodie Foster’s “The Brave One”. Then Stiffler is back in “Mr. Woodcock” for an attempt at comedy that doesn’t interest me. There’s also the B-movie “Dragon Wars” which seems to have escaped it’s place on the SciFi channel. The last one looks pretty good with “Eastern Promises”, but I’m just not sure how excited I am to see this one.

Here are all your movie details & trailers for this weekend, September 14 - 16, 2007.

The Brave One

The Brave One
Starring: Jodie Foster, Terrence Howard, Naveen Andrews
Director: Neil Jordan
Genre: Action/Adventure, Drama, Thriller
Rated: R for strong violence, language and some sexuality.
Duration: 2hrs 2mins
Plot: New York radio host Erica Bain (Foster) looks to recover from a brutal attack, one that left her severely wounded and her fiancé dead, by setting out on a mission for revenge. With her anonymous exploits earning their fair share of public attention, and a detective inching closer to naming a suspect, she begins to question if the path she’s on is the right one.
My Take: If Death Sentence wasn’t your cup of tea the other week then The Brave One, another vigilant justice movie, might not be either. I’m guessing this one will be a little more about the characters than spraying blood, but I could be wrong. I may see it to check out how Howard is progressing along.

The Brave One Movie Trailer:

Mr Woodcock

Mr. Woodcock
Starring: Billy Bob Thornton, Seann William Scott, Susan Sarandon
Director: Craig Gillespie
Genre: Comedy
Rated: PG-13 for crude and sexual content, thematic material, language and a mild drug reference
Plot: John Farley (Scott) returns home in an effort to stop his mom (Sarandon) from marrying his old high school gym teacher (Thornton), a man who has made high school hell for generations of students.
My Take: Not a chance. What the hell are Sarandon and Thorton doing in this mess? Stiffler will always be Stiffler, but the rest of you? No excuse.

Mr. Woodcock Movie Trailer:

Dragon Wars

Dragon Wars: D-War
Starring: Jason Behr, Amanda Brooks, Robert Forster
Director: Hyung-rae Shim
Genre: Action/Adventure, Science Fiction/Fantasy
Rated: PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and creature action.
Plot: A beautiful young woman possesses the power to transform a legendary giant serpent into an almighty dragon who can only ascend into heaven with the woman’s ultimate sacrifice. But the forces of darkness are out to claim the young woman as their own and her reincarnated lover and his aged mentor stand in their way.
My Take: Didn’t they already make this and in a much better looking fashion with Reign of Fire?? Pass. Oh and isn’t the title a little redundant?

Dragon Wars: D-War Movie Trailer:

Eastern Promises

Eastern Promises
Starring: Naomi Watts, Viggo Mortensen, Armin Mueller-Stahl
Director: David Cronenberg
Genre: Drama, Thriller and Crime/Gangster
Rated: R for strong brutal and bloody violence, some graphic sexuality, language and nudity.
Duration: 1 hr. 40 min.
Plot: While trying to learn the identity of a dead prostitute, a hospital midwife (Watts) encounters a mysterious crime boss (Mortensen) who illuminates a path through London’s underbelly that may lead to her answer.
My Take: I look at the cast and the quality and I know this is going to be a good movie, but I simply can’t get excited about this. I’m just not interested. Maybe after some strong reviews and a DVD release I’ll check it out.
