The weekend box office results are in and while the #1 spot isn’t surprising I’ll admit that I’m more that surprised by some of the other new releases. Jodie Foster easily took the top spot with The Brave One earning a modest $14 million on its debut. Knocked from the top perch down to second place is 3:10 To Yuma with about a 50% reduction in earnings this week over last with just $9.15 million. While I’m not surprised, just disappointed, with Mr. Woodcock getting third place with $9.1M it’s Dragon Wars earning $5.3 million that blows my mind. That movie looked awful, awful, awful, and yet it earns as much in its debut as Shoot ‘Em Up did last week? How do these things happen? That sort of thing is just going to encourage Hollywood to put out cheap, low-grade movies that earn at a far higher ROI. Grrr….
