On December 18th Warner Bros. is re-releasing one of the greatest Sci-Fi flicks of all time on DVD, Blade Runner! Blade Runner, The Final Cut, is supposed to be the ultimate version of Ridley Scott’s classic movie. In Blade Runner, the main character Deckard, played by Harrison Ford, is called out of retirement to hunt down and terminate four replicants (i.e., androids) who have returned to Earth to hunt down and kill their creators. During his investigation he falls for Rachel, the beautiful assistant of Tyrell, the androids number one target. Of course, Rachel turns out to be much more than a simple assistant. The supporting cast including Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, and James Edward Olmos.
Warner Bros. is actually releasing several versions of the DVDs. You can get the Final Cut 2-Disc Special Edition, the 4-disc Collector’s Edition, or the 5-Disc Ultimate Collector’s Edition! The difference between these is mostly how many discs of bonus material you get. For example with the 5-Disc Ultimate Collector’s Edition in addition to the movie itself and the standard bonus material you get three additional versions of the film, and the rare Work Print version - in addition to the in-depth feature length documentary “Dangerous Days”, and one complete disc of bonus content including over 80-minutes of never-before-seen deleted scenes. The Ultimate Collector’s Edition is packaged in a limited edition, numbered “Deckard” briefcase and includes collectible memorabilia such as a Spinner car replica, Unicorn figurine, Illustration, and Photo cards, and a lenticular Motion Film Clip in lucite. And of course the films are available in HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. I have loved this movie since I was a kid. It is definitely one of my all-time favorite Sci-Fi films. I hate to say it since I already own two copies of this movie but, I’ll probably end up pre-ordering the 5-disc set. Damn them and devilish marketing schemes!
