Dancing with the Stars

Welcome to Season 5 of Dancing With The Stars! This season is the biggest season yet with a full dozen stars dancing for their lives. The first surprise of the season was the absence of Samantha Harris. She recently had her baby and so former DWTS champion Drew Lachey was called on to fill in for Samantha until she returns later in the season. After a little chat between Drew and Tom Bergeron we got to see a pretty cool routine performed by all twelve of this seasons pro dancers. I noticed that this routine featured pretty heavily last season’s champ Julianne Hough and her brother Derek. After that performance they introduced this seasons couples and then jumped right in to the competitive performances. I was surprised at how quickly they got into the dancing especially since the had a full hour and half and only 6 performances (not that I’m complaining mind you). I apologize if my writeup is a little spotty tonight, I was trying to watch while getting checked after taking a baseball bat to the head a earlier in the evening (little league baseball, don’t ask).

Jennie Garth & Derek Hough
Dance: Cha Cha Cha
Jennie and Derek danced to Billy Joel’s Uptown Girl. Jennie ..Poor foot work, Derek did great Jennie mediocre. She reminded me a little of Leeza Gibbons from last season which is really not a flattering comparison unfortunately. I think the judges scores were a little conservative just because she was the performance of the season and they wanted to leave themselves a little wiggle room.Bruno called her a, “yummy mummy.”
Carrie Ann Inaba: 7
Len Goodman: 7
Bruno Tonioli: 7
Total: 21

Josie Maran & Alec Mazo
Dance: Foxtrot
While Josie apparently looks great she actually isn’t in very good shape. I didn’t think she looked that bad but the judges were pretty tough with her. Her footwork was terrible and her carriage was not the best. The general impression from the judges was that Josie had a lot of potential, but also needs a lot of work.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 6
Len Goodman: 5
Bruno Tonioli: 5
Total: 16

Melanie Brown & Maksim Chmerkovsky
Dance: Cha Cha Cha
I totally missed this one, sorry.
Total: 24

Sabrina Bryan & Mark Ballas
Dance: Cha Cha Cha
Holy cow, these two were awesome. For a first night performance, this was an incredible routine. Sabrina and Mark look like they could be one of the couples to beat.

Total: 26

Marie Osmond & Jonathon Roberts
Dance: Foxtrot
Missed this one too.
Total: 21

Jane Seymour & Tony Dovolani
Dance: Foxtrot
Wow, Jane Seymour was spectacular. Elegant doesn’t even begin to describe her tonight. I’ll be curious to see how she does in a quicker dance. The judges loved her. Carrie Ann and Len both told her to watch her turns biut other than that, they had nothing but good things to say about her performance.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 8
Len Goodman: 8
Bruno Tonioli: 8
Total: 24

Judges Leader Board
Sabrina & Mark: 26
Jane & Tony: 24
Mel & Maksim: 24
Jennie & Derek: 21
Marie & Jonathon: 21
Josie & Alec:16

Tomorrow night the men get their chance to take the dance floor and show us their stuff. Hopefully I’ll be able to focus a little better on the show tomorrow night. That can’t happen twice in two nights, can it?

[...] Last night the ladies showed us what they could do. Tonight the men have their turn on the dance floor to entertain and impress the judges and us. I liked the fact that they gave a brief intro to each of the stars before they danced. This was very helpful for me because there were a couple of stars that I didn’t know, for example, I really had no idea who Cameron Mathison was. Like the ladies, the men will dance either the Foxtrot or the Cha Cha Cha. Len described the Foxtrot as the “Rolls Royce of the ballroom dances”, it is all about grace and elegance. Len’s description of the Cha Cha Cha was a, “fun cheeky dance with a flirty flavor.” The women did a fair job for the first performance, lets see if the men did the same. [...]
