Dancing with the Stars

Here we go, round 2! After last week, we have a number of couples who need to show the judges and us they deserve to stay in the competition. Tonight the couples will be dancing either the quickstep or the Mambo. Let’s see who’s going home tonight!

Melanie Brown & Maksim Chmerkovsky
Dance: Quickstep
Mel B said she wanted to use this dance to show America that she could be a classy lady, “From Scary Spice to Lady Spice.” Now knowing Mel B’s past history I wouldn’t quite go that far but, she and Maksim did a really good job tonight. The judges were all very impressed with her especially her posture through out the routine. Carrie Ann was the only one of the three who even had the slightest criticism. Bruno described her as a combination of Lena Horn and Ginger Rogers.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 7
Len Goodman: 8
Bruno Tonioli: 8
Total: 23

Mark Cuban & Kym Johnson
Dance: Mambo Mark is trying really hard and working really hard but I’m not sure dancing is really his thing. While Kym looked fantastic in her outfit, Mark can’t pull of the sleeveless shirt. The audience liked the performance because of how hard Mark was trying. The judges agreed that it was fun to watch but their technical execution was not all it should have been. Carrie Ass said, “Your face is dancing twice as hard as your body,” and Bruno described the routine as a bull dog chasing a squirrel. Not good.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 6
Len Goodman: 6
Bruno Tonioli: 6
Total: 18
Like I said, not good.

Wayne Newton & Cheryl Burke
Dance: Quickstep
Tonight they danced to Viva Las Vegas by Elvis which is the perfect song for Wayne Newton. I give the man credit. He’s tryin’. Wayne just can’t move fast enough. The funny part was he was singing along throughout the whole performance. The judges enjoyed the performance but again, the technique was hurting. The audience really likes Wayne so my guess is that Wayne will be safe again, not because of the judges scores, but because of the audience vote.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 5
Len Goodman: 5
Bruno Tonioli: 5
Total: 15
(Ouch.)

Marie Osmond & Jonathon Roberts
Dance: Mambo
I thought Marie did an awesome job tonight. She really stepped it up this week. The audience was going crazy when they finished her routine. They received a standing ovation. She and Jonathon went for it. They threw in a bunch of tricks. The judges loved it too. She was a “Hot Mama,” as Bruno said. Len likedit and appreciated her performance skills but told her she didn’t need to do the tricks.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 8
Len Goodman: 8
Bruno Tonioli: 8
Total: 24

Albert Reed & Anna Trebunskaya
Dance: Quickstep
Albert dedicated tonight’s performance to his grandfather who was a ballroom dancer. It was a good performance but, I wasn’t really that enthusiastic about it. The judges really liked it. Len thought that they might be the dark horse of the competition. There were some minor technical problems with their performance and they seemed to lose some energy during the middle of their performance.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 7
Len Goodman: 7
Bruno Tonioli: 7
Total: 21

Helio Castroneves & Julianne Hough
Dance: Mambo
Helio is a little goofy. He looks like he should be some Brazilian Casanova but he’s a bit nerdy. Their performance was amazing but Julianne always is. All three judges loved it. Not one of them had a bad thing to say. Helio and Julianne proved that they are contenders this season.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 9
Len Goodman: 9
Bruno Tonioli: 9
Total: 27
(Awesome score for week 2!)

Jennie Garth & Derek Hough
Dance: Quickstep
Jennie’s footwork seemed a little sloppy to me. When Jennie was sliding through Derek legs at the end they wiped out. Len said she did well but needed to work on her posture. Overall the judges thought they had potential but the little mistakes killed them. Not bad scores considering the problems they had.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 7
Len Goodman: 7
Bruno Tonioli: 7
Total: 21

Cameron Mathison & Edyta Sliwinska
Dance: Mambo
As usual Edyta had on a really funky costume. It was sexy and yet at they same time a little weird. Despite how distracting Edyta’s costume was these two did a good job. They made it look really sensual and romantic. Carrie Ann thought Cameron looked hot but he had a problem with his musicality. Len and Bruno agreed that he had some trouble keeping the beat. I loved Bruno’s comment, “You look like Superman but sometimes you dance like Clark Kent.”
Carrie Ann Inaba: 7
Len Goodman: 7
Bruno Tonioli: 7
Total: 21

Floyd Mayweather & Karina Smirnoff
Dance: Quickstep
To me, Floyd’s footwork didn’t seem clean and he may have been off beat just a little. Bruno liked his footwork but didn’t like his posture. Carrie Ann and Len agreed. What do I know about footwork? The judges also agreed that Floyd improved tremendously since last week.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 7
Len Goodman: 7
Bruno Tonioli: 7
Total: 21

Jane Seymour & Tony Dovolani
Dance: Mambo
Jane thought this would be her biggest challenge of the competition because she was very uncomfortable with shaking her hips. Jane and Tony’s Mambo was much more fun and carefree than sensual and romantic. Len described it as an English Mambo instead of a Latin Mambo. Len wanted more raunch. Bruno agreed that it was like the tea party version of the Mambo. Carrie Ann disagreed with the two guys, she thought Jane’s elegance worked for her.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 7
Len Goodman: 7
Bruno Tonioli: 7
Total: 21

Sabrina Bryan & Mark Ballas
Dance: Quickstep
Wow, once again a brilliant performance. I loved it. It was energetic, fun, and technically sound. I have no doubt Sabrina and Mark will be around to the very end of the season. Like me and the audience, the judges really liked it. Len was the only one who had some problems with it but Bruno and Tom Bergeron gave him a hard time so he never really got it out.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 9
Len Goodman: 8
Bruno Tonioli: 9
Total: 26
