Audio Video: Home Theater Guide

Are you ready for the weekend? Yeah, me too. This time around we’ve only got a couple of options, but they’re certainly balanced out for kids and adults. First up is Ben Stiller’s “The Heartbreak Kid” featuring him as a commitment-phobic guy who falls into a bad relationship. Yeah, I know. But before you write it off this is actually getting decent reviews. This was almost made with Jason Bateman and Amy Phoeler, which might not have made as much in the box office, but after Arrested Development Bateman is, without a doubt, a top notch comedy option. Ah well, we’ll have to settle for niche actor Stiller instead who I’m sure will do it well, just not any differently than all the rest of his films. Over on the kids’ end of this weekend you’ve got The Seeker which looks like a crappy 80’s movie and features a kid who discovers he has super powers and is overly important to fighting evil. For reasons to avoid this one check out the trailer below. Best of luck out there!

Here are all your movie details & trailers for this weekend, October 5 - 7, 2007.

The Heartbreak Kid

The Heartbreak Kid
Starring: Ben Stiller, Michelle Monaghan, Malin Akerman
Director: Peter Farrelly, Bobby Farrelly
Genre: Comedy
Rated: R for strong sexual content, crude humor and language.
Duration: 2hrs 38mins (?? trying to confirm this)
Plot: After years of bachelorhood and ample pressure from his father, Doc, and best friend Mac, Eddie Cantrow starts to wonder if he is being too picky about the women he meets. So when a chance encounter with an alluring blonde named Lila leads to a sweet romance, Eddie impulsively proposes. But right after the wedding, as the newlyweds get to know each other on the drive down the California coast, Eddie begins to realize he’s made a terrible mistake. Soon after reaching their exotic Mexican hideaway, he falls for the down-to-earth Miranda, who has no clue he’s on his honeymoon. Now Eddie has to find a way to extricate himself from his days-old marriage without losing the girl of his dreams.
My Take: The duration must be a typo at 2hrs 38mins! I can’t imagine sitting through a comedy that long. If that’s 1 hr 38 mins I think I’ll try to see this. I’m not too happy about Carlos “Your joke is now my joke” Mencia being in the cast as he’s as valuable as my writing skills. Good reviews though so far on this, so you might want to consider it.

The Seeker

The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising
Starring: Alexander Ludwig, Ian McShane, Gregory Smith
Director: David L. Cunningham
Genre: Action / Adventure / Drama / Fantasy
Rated: Rated PG for fantasy action and some scary images.
Plot: The life of young Will Stanton (Ludwig) is turned upside down when he learns that he is the last of a group of immortal warriors who have dedicated their lives to fighting the forces of the dark.
My Take: A story about a young boy that finds out he’s more powerful and magical than ever imagined and must fight evil to save the world?? Wow. JK Rowlings should have written a series of books just like that years ago! She’d be rich.
