In a surprise turn of events last week Albert & Anna were sent home. I was sure it was going to be Mark Cuban. His scores from the judges were pretty low (18) and Mark, unlike many of the other celebrities doesn’t have a large fan base. I thought Wayne Newton would survive specifically because of his enormous fan base It certainly wasn’t going to be because of his score from the judges, 15 which was the lowest of the week. Albert & Anna were in the middle of the pack with 21. This should be a wake up call to the other couples, Mediocre is not good enough. If you want to be safe, you need to step up and bring it every week or you could be going home.

Two couples really stood out last week. Sabrina & Mark and Helio & Julianne. For the past two weeks these two couples have held the number one and number two spots on the Judges Leader Board. To some extent this isn’t a huge surprise. Julianne was last season’s winner and Sabrina dances regularly with the Cheetah Girls. These two couples should continue to be strong through out the season. However, this could end up being trouble for these pairs. Have they peaked too early? They have already set very high expectations in the minds of the judges and the audience. In setting the bar so high for everybody else, they have also set it high for themselves. If one of these other couples steps up and begins to really compete, they could easily swing much of the audience behind them. The audience on audience participation shows like DWTS, love a come from behind story. Sabrina and Helio are going to need to bring their A game every week now. Certainly Marie Osmond & Jonathon and Mel & Maksim are two dance pairs capable of catching up with with the lead couples. We’ll have to see how this plays out over the rest of the season.
