Audio Video: Home Theater Guide

After a huge influx of new movies last weekend things have calmed down considerably. Just two new movie releases this time around. The first is the latest installment in the Saw torture movies. The other is a much different genre with Dan In Real Life going for the romantic comedy market. If neither of these are to your liking then you’ve still got plenty of other strong options already out in theaters.

Here are all your movie details & trailers for this weekend, October 26 - 28, 2007.

Saw IV

Saw IV
Starring: Tobin Bell, Scott Patterson, Justin Louis
Director: Darren Lynn Bousman
Genre: Suspense/Horror
Rated: R for sequences of grisly bloody violence and torture throughout, and for language.
Plot: Jigsaw and his apprentice Amanda are dead. Upon the news of Detective Kerry’s murder, two seasoned FBI profilers, Agent Strahm and Agent Perez, arrive at the depleted police precinct and help veteran Detective Hoffman sift through Jigsaw’s latest grizzly game of victims and piece together the puzzle. However, when SWAT Commander Rigg, the last officer untouched by Jigsaw, is suddenly abducted and thrust into the madman’s harrowing game, the officer has but ninety minutes to overcome a series of interconnected traps…or face the deadly consequences.
My Take: I stopped watching these after the first one, but damn they turn an impressive profit at the box office (roughly $100 million after production costs). Don’t look for the series to end anytime soon either as V and VI are rumored to be filmed back to back.

Saw IV - Movie Trailer:

Dan In Real Life

Dan In Real Life
Starring: Steve Carell, Juliette Binoche, Dane Cook
Director: Peter Hedges
Genre: Comedy and Romance
Rated: PG-13 for some innuendo.
Duration: 1hr 38mins
Plot: Advice columnist Dan Burns is an expert on relationships, but somehow struggles to succeed as a brother, a son and a single parent.
My Take: Why, oh why did you have to go and include Dane Cook? He’s box office cancer. Unless I hear Cook gets run over by a very large truck within minutes of his first appearance I won’t be seeing this one.
