With all the casting going on for JJ Abrams’ new Star Trek movie (this will take it up to #11 for those counting) there’s one actor still waiting for the call. William Shatner, who made Captain Kirk and naming your own price famous, appears to have been left out of the series reboot. Shatner told the UK’s Daily Mail:
“I can’t believe it, I’m not in the movie at all. Leonard, God bless his heart, is in, but not me. I thought, ‘What a decision to make, ‘ since it obviously is a decision not to make use of the popularity I have to ensure the movie has good box office figures. It didn’t seem to be a wise business decision.”
I can’t believe he’s not in it either and that’s why I think this is a publicity ploy to cover up the cameo he’ll make in the film. We know the original Spock, Leonard Nimoy, will return as there will likely be some narration of the new story as a flashback from the aging characters. So it would only make sense to have the main guy there by Nimoy’s side for those scenes. I’m not buying this, “I’m not in it,” crap from Shatner. The movie will be out at the dead end of 2008, so we’ll know for sure then, but I won’t be surprised to hear leaks sooner on this one.
