Sony is wasting no time as it readies for another installment of the Spider-man franchise. Despite a very disappointing third film this cash cow is too tempting to let go and as such Sony has purchased the rights to films four, five, and six. Kirsten Dunst has already said she doesn’t want to do the fourth one (not that she really was that enthused for the third time either). I wouldn’t be surprised to see Maguire drop out of this one either. Everything seems to be changing, and maybe for the better as even Sam Raimi won’t be writing this new film. Instead that honor will be going to James Vanderbilt who wrote the screenplay for Zodiac, The Rundown, and Darkness Falls. Darkness Falls was pretty bad, but Zodiac was great, so I’d be willing to consider returning to the webslinger, especially if Dunst is out.
Raimi won’t be writing this one, but will he even be involved? Maybe, maybe not, according to Slash Film:
The fourth Spider-Man film is set to hit theaters in 2009 (presumably Summer). Sam Raimi has yet to commit to the project, and has recently said that he wants to see how the script turns out first. Industry insiders say that Raimi is waiting on The Hobbit before committing to any big projects. Raimi has said that he will only do the Lord of the Rings prequel if Peter Jackson settles his feud/lawsuit with New Line, and come on board the project as producer.
Are you done with Spider-man or are you ready to get back for another installment?
