Welcome to your weekend. You’ve got three new movies to help get you there. First up is American Gangster which stands as an indicator that we have reached Oscar time again. Gangster brings together Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe, and Ridley Scott in a great looking crime drama based on a true story. If you’re looking for something lighter there is always Jerry Seinfeld’s animated movie, Bee Movie, which should be good for families. Somewhere in between those two is Martian Child which looks to be a bit heavy but hopefully has a happy ending with John Cusack as a widower who adopts a child posing as a Martian. If none of these sound good to you then hopefully the weather is nice where you are.
Here are all your movie details & trailers for this weekend, November 2 - 4, 2007.
American Gangster
Starring: Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe
Director: Ridley Scott
Genre: Crime / Drama / Thriller
Rated: Rated R for violence, pervasive drug content and language, nudity and sexuality.
Duration: 2hrs 37mins
Plot: In 1970s Harlem, Frank Lucas (Washington) constructs a heroin empire by stashing the drug inside the coffins of soldiers returning from Vietnam. Once he is dethroned by Det. Richie Roberts (Crowe), the former kingpin turns informant, the duo sets out to take down law enforcement agents and foreign nationals who are part of his syndicate.
My Take: This is definitely going to be great with this line up. Crowe and Ridley team back up (American Gladiator) and Denzel and Crowe again as well (Virtuosity). I’m looking forward to seeing this movie this weekend. The sooner the better.

American Gangster - Movie Trailer:
Bee Movie
Starring: Jerry Seinfeld, Renée Zellweger
Director: Steve Hickner Simon J. Smith
Genre: Animated / Family
Rated: Rated PG for mild suggestive humor, and a brief depiction of smoking.
Duration: 1hr 30mins
Plot: Barry B. Benson (Seinfeld), a bee who has just graduated from college, is disillusioned at his lone career choice: making honey. On a special trip outside the hive, Barry’s life is saved by Vanessa (Zellweger), a florist in New York City. As their relationship blossoms, he discovers people actually eat honey, and subsequently decides to file a lawsuit against humankind.
My Take: I’m a huge Seinfeld fanatic, but I really don’t care for animated movies anymore. I’m sure this will be good, though probably not like Shrek good. Either way I’m just glad to see Seinfeld back out and doing something. The bonus here is you don’t actually have to look at Zellweger, just listen to her. I’ll eventually see this one, but I’ll be waiting for a DVD release.

Bee Movie - Movie Trailer:
Martian Child
Starring: John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Bobby Coleman
Director: Menno Meyjes
Genre: Drama
Rated: Rated PG for thematic elements and mild language.
Duration: 1hr 48mins
Plot: Trying to rebuild his life after his wife’s death, a writer (Cusack) adopts a troubled young boy (Coleman) who believes he’s a Martian.
My Take: So wait, it’s like K-Pax but with an adopted kid instead? Here’s another movie where I’m a fan of all those involved, I just don’t think I’ll rush out to see this one.
