Once Michael Bay backed down from his “no Transformers on Blu-ray means no Transformers 2 at all” stance and got working on the sequel it sounds like he had another Bay-typical idea. Bay told Rotten Tomatoes that after bending to every request from the Transformers fanboys in the first movie he’s decided to hit back this time around by screwing with their expectations.
“One thing I do know is I know how to screw them up more,” said Bay. “We’re going to leak a lot of false information all over the place. I now know their game. They’re going to get a lot of script treatments that they think are going to be the script. They will never see the script. We’ve got scripts and treatments written up that we’re going to leak. No one’s going to know.”
“There’s one [script] out that’s fake right now. There are going to be many others.”
If Michael Bay spent half as much time learning how to not suck ass as he does trying to run misinformation campaigns then maybe I wouldn’t completely skip the sequel. It might not even matter too much either way though as Variety reports the whole production could be in danger if the WGA strike goes for several months (last strike was 5+ months):
DreamWorks/Par’s “Transformers 2″ is far enough along to proceed with pre-production, location scouting and advance VFX work, but will face serious issues if the strike continues for several months. Michael Bay’s megabudget sequel isn’t set to start filming until June. Di Bonaventura’s “Edwin A. Salt” will likely be pushed back, too.
This strike is going to have huge impacts on movies, which isn’t what you think of first with the current events as TV gets hit so much quicker. I wonder what other movies are going to potentially get dropped over this. Even after all that I still support the WGA’s cause as they deserve this to be resolved and get compensated for their work.
