Dancing with the Stars

Three couples remain to compete for the Dancing With The Stars Championship. We are just six performances away from crowning this season’s champions. Last week with the disappointing (at least for me) elimination for Jennie & Derek, the remaining couples are Helio & Julianne, Mel & Maks, and Marie & Jonathon. Based on past performance it is really a competition between Helio & Julianne and Mel & Maks. Either one of these couples has a chance to win. They have both had their share of perfect scores and awesome performances. Even though I’m personally rooting for Helio & Julianne, I think Mel & Maks might have a slight edge.

While Marie & Jonathon have worked hard, done well, and been very entertaining, they aren’t really in the same league as the other two couples. If Marie and Jonathon win, unless they had the performance of their lives and the other two couples fell flat on their faces (literally) I might stop watching the show. That would mean that the winner was decided solely on popularity instead of on the quality of their performances.

Big Brother 9

[climbs on soap box] We have recently had some comments from fans who are voting for certain celebrities just because they are fans. I’d just like to remind everyone that this is a dance competition. If one of your favorite stars are on the show, that is a great reason to tune in. You will probably be more inclined to vote for stars of which you are a fan even when voting strictly on the performance of the couples. Voting for someone just because you are their fan is not fair to the other competitors and it isn’t fair to the star you are a fan of either. So please when you vote, vote for the couple you think performed the best, no matter what. It’s more fun to watch when it is a dance competition instead of a popularity contest. (Not that a reality show based sorely on celebrity popularity wouldn’t be fun to watch ;))

OH By the way this is NOT just a dance competiton. If it was John Hurley would have won; if it was Mario would have won; if it was Joey P would have won, or Stacy with those long long legs. But it is not just a dance competion, where the best dancer wins. If it was true there would just be judges, or like So You Think You Can Dance, where the audience only gets to to narrow down the choices to 3 and then the judges choose. So wake up and smell the tutu’s. (euuuuuuuuuuuuuuuwwww) It is a contest about who has made the best journey and that’s infinitely more interesting than giving the award to Mel, who is a professional dancer who has has stated she practed an hour and a half for the last dance. My prediction Mel comes in third, because no one likes a RINGER! And that leaves Helio and Marie, and as far as dance skills, that’s at least a tie, with Marie given the edge. I mean WATCH Helio, blot out his stunning partner and he’s not that great. On Larry King they showed a clip of Ono last year, and that really let you see how much more accomplished Ono was than Helio. You know I think Marie has got a shot at it, but I predict she will at least come in second, because even if they give the other two all tens and she comes in third she will win the popular vote and in case of a tie, the popular vote winner wins making her better than at least one. It’s not just that she has a fan base, she had quickly slipped into hasbeen’sville. But her funny, quick come backs, her plucky gumption (48 years old and carrying some weight) did not stop her. It’s not about who is the best dancer, just give up that fantasy, that has never been true. Cause I’m voting from work, 15 lines and 3 email addresses later and it’s all going for Marie. And as for every person who gives up watching next year and doesnt vote if Marie should win, wellllll that just means my vote will have more clout.
    thanks for the article

I can’t wait for tonight…it’s obviously between Helio and Mel! Marie’s a great entertainer, but isn’t up to the standard the other two have set.

I don’t see what’s so great about Marie being 48. I’m 55 and lots of my contemporaries are in way better shape than she is. If she were Jane, maybe her age would be a factor, but she is not. Therefore, I judge her as a dancer, and she just isn’t that great. Plus, her cattiness and Donny annoy the heck out of me.

i agree with kara, very well put. hoping for Julianne to win for the 2nd time…if not then Marie

How appropriate. 15 lines and 3 e-mails. That’s cheating. If that’s the only way you think Marie can win, then you obviously don’t have the faith she can win by the merits of her talent and personality. Evidently, from your writing skills, you don’t work in the journalistic field.
I, in fact, vote for the best performance of the night. After all, the show is called “Dancing with the Stars”; not “Vote for the Star for Which You Happen to be a Fan, Regardless of How He/She Performs Tonight”.

This is definitely not just a dance competition, but it should be; everything is based on the fans, which many times has nothing to do with the caliber of dancing. Tonight’s final performances showed discrepancies with the judges, too. Carrie Ann Inaba projected as a hypocrite by criticizing Mel B’s mediocre free style dance, which wasn’t her best performance, but then gave her a 9. Then, she criticized Helio’s free style saying how the lifts need to be smooth, then gave him a 9. The other judges gave him 10’s, with Len saying it was the best free style dance of the evening, which was so obvious as the other dancers did not measure up to past performances. How could Carrie Ann give Mel B a 9 and Helio a 9 when there was no comparison whatsoever. I am very disappointed in her.

After tonight’s performances for both of Marie’s dances, I feel she should come in third. If she wins this competition, abc needs to rename the show….maybe Dancing with the Stars and the Fans who have CLOUT. (I know that sounds ridiculous, but you know what I mean)….How could she have that “shocked” look on her face when she only got 8’s for her first dance. And her “doll” dance…as the judges said, it wasn’t a dance at all. I agree with Katty that Marie is catty. Who do you want to be this season’s champions?

  8. G

Here, here, Bill — I agree whole-heartedly with you.

Hey Bill, I never said I worked in the journlism field….oh if you want to find fault with someone’s writing maybe you should first try starting out with actual real sentences. Forget something??? Subjects….verbs??? But then that is how it always goes. you see the sliver in others but can’t see the big post sticking out of yourself.

ON DWTS, THE JUDGES AREN’T THE JUDGES ANYMORE, THE PEOPLE HAVE BEEN THE LAST 3 SEASONS-WHEN IT FINALLY SHOWED ABC IT WAS BEING WATCHED. THEY DON’T CARE WHO WINS, IT’S WHAT PLOT TO COME UP WITH FOR THE AUDIENCES ATTENTION…RATINGS MATTER ONLY AND WHAT PRO BRINGS IN THE MOST ATTENTION TO THE SHOW. HOPEFULLY WE PAY THIS MUCH ATTENTION AND ARE THIS AGGRESSIVE WHEN WE VOTE FOR OUR PRESIDENT….

  11. Bill

    “Forget something???” (sic)
    Subjects… .verbs???” (sic)

Why are the above “actual real sentences” while “How appropriate” is not?

  12. kara

Thats the diff, Bill. I never held myself up as being gramatically perfect. But since you were so self rightous about it I guess I expected you to use actual sentences….my mistake.

Oh, my God, did you hear Marie’s sour grapes responses all night? That was so tacky and uncalled for!! Once, I took my mother and grandmother to see her at a doll signing show. She was SO RUDE to all these women (many of them elderly) who had waitied hours to see her!! I hope she doesn’t win= she should not be in the finals and that annoying brother of hers should not be on entertainment tonight every night!
