Tonight’s episode of Supernatural on The CW brings the festive pagan horror of an “Anti-Santa” with “A Very Supernatural Christmas.” The story pits supernatural investigative brothers Sam and Dean Winchester against an evil intruder who keeps dropping down the chimney, grabbing family members, and not leaving much more than a tooth behind when they leave! So if you could use a little bone crunching and body bags with your egg nog then step inside because Supernatural has you covered.
If you’re new to the Supernatural series, like I was, then this Christmas special is a good place to start. The story picks up quickly, is easy to follow, and the back and forth banter between the brothers was pretty entertaining. I was always a huge fan of The X-Files and this has a very familiar feel to it. Instead of chasing aliens or missing sisters this pair is hunting down demons and buggers of the supernatural sort, of course.
Should you already be well into the Supernatural storyline then tonight’s episode will provide you with a few nice flashbacks into Sam and Dean’s childhood. It seems the boys were always in a tough spot when it came to Christmas as their father, the Indiana Jones of the demon world, spends more time on the road than with the boys for the holiday. You’ll have to watch and see the funny presents that childhood Dean gets for his younger brother. Twenty years later their gift giving abilities haven’t seemed to improved too much either!
Supernatural Episode 308 “A Very Supernatural Christmas” Preview:
It’s Christmas time and Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) investigate a series of murders where the victims were pulled up through the chimney. Sam realizes they are dealing with a sort of Anti-Santa, a demon with roots in pagan lore. Dean wants to celebrate Christmas the old fashioned way as this is his last, but Sam refuses, not wanting to accept that Dean won’t be around next year.
