Gossip Girl

Tonight on The CW Gossip Girl returns in its first season with “School Lies”. Along with all the usual drama and capers you’ve grown accustomed to you’ll get to hear a couple of songs from cast member Ed Westwick’s band The Filthy Youth. More details on that below but here’s a look at what’s in tonight’s episode of Gossip Girl:

IMPROMPTU PARTY AT THE SCHOOL SWIMMING POOL — Serena (Blake Lively), Blair (Leighton Meester), Nate (Chace Crawford), Chuck (Ed Westwick) and their entourage break into the school swimming pool for a night of fun, but when a member of their group nearly drowns, the school threatens to expel the person responsible for the break-in. Everyone agrees to keep a secret pact and say nothing, but it ultimately creates major tension between Serena and Dan (Penn Badgley), who isn’t sure he’s ready to take the fall for someone else and risk his future. Vanessa (Jessica Szohr) is working on a documentary project about private schools and accidentally captures Blair and Chuck discussing their affair. Lily (Kelly Rutherford) contemplates telling Rufus (Matthew Settle) how she really feels about him.

An advance copy of the episode showed us that by the end you’ll find out who is responsible for the school party, if Serena’s mom decides to marry Chuck’s dad or date Nate’s dad, and finally you’ll see just how Vanessa handles her blackmail video tape. Sassy! Now more on Westwick’s band:

Formed in 2006, The Filthy Youth is an indie rock band that plays in and around London. In addition to front man Westwick, the band members include Jimmy Wright, Benjamin Lewis, Tom Bastiani and Jon Vooght. In describing the two songs selected for “Gossip Girl,” Westwick shares that “Orange” is a song about being with your friends and “ripping it up,” and “Come Flash All You Ladies” is about certain women Westwick has met throughout his life. The band’s music is available via their MySpace page, www.myspace.com/thefilthyyouth, on which fans are encouraged to submit their own “filthy youth” pictures.
