In an age of writer’s strikes what can keep the people entertained? Why bread and circuses of course! American Gladiator returns Sunday night on NBC. Those of you who are old enough (like me) will remember this show from the 80’s. Average everyday Americans have to compete against muscle bound gladiators to win cash and prizes. What could be more entertaining than that? Well I guess they could have brought back the lions but this is the 21st century after all. No doubt PETA would have been all up in arms if they had.There isn’t any actual blood and guts so it is appropriate for children. I’ll probably let my kids watch it even though I know we’ll have some problems with pudgel sticks in the back yard the next day.

This was a fun show back in the 80’s and I remember watching as a kid. It was fun back then and I’m looking forward to it again now. It looks like they have the same events setup in the arena and the costumes are as skimpy as they were in the 80’s. Only the gladiators seem to have changed. They’re not only muscular but hot too. Here is a picture of my favorite one, Crush. The show will be hosted by 80’s wrestling sensation Hulk Hogan and boxer Laila Ali of Dancing with the Stars fame. Considering the dearth of good shows on TV thanks to the writer’s strike I’m happy to see the return of one of my favorite shows from the 80’s. Now if only they would bring back That’s Incredible.
