A few months ago the Internet was treated to some nude photos of High School Musical’s own Vanessa Hudgens. Shortly after the details emerged that it was Hudgens herself that released the photos through some not too selective emails. Now we’re a few months down that road and Vanessa, while reluctant, is finally speaking out about those images, how they’ve influenced her situation, and even what her mother thought of it. In an interview with Seventeen magazine Vanessa says:
I want to apologize to my fans, whose support and trust means the world to me. I am embarrassed over this situation and regret having ever taken these photos. It was something that was meant to be private, and even though it isn’t anymore, I’d still like to keep it as private as I can.
It was very traumatic, and I am extremely upset it happened. I hope all my fans can learn from my mistake and make smart decisions.
So yeah, she screwed up and did a dumb thing, but I’m glad to hear she’s at least finally coming back and putting out the message that it was not a good thing to do. Considering her fan base comes from Disney and age ranges roughly 9 - 14 years old I’m amazed at how little backlash there was against that situation. What I didn’t care for is how Vanessa described her mother’s reactions:
Hudgens recalls with a laugh, “I was just open with her, and she was just so cute. She was like, ‘Well, everyone can be naked if they want to.’ ”
What the hell? If I had kids I’d have a hard time imagining myself just chuckling off the idea that a daughter of mine emailed out nude photos of herself and then telling her, “hey, everyone’s doing it!” Where’s the parental role of telling them, “that was stupid”? Is it too late for Hudgens’ mom to add a chapter to Lynn Spears’ parenting book?
