Despite Taylor Hicks’ ability to go platinum with his 2006 debut album “Taylor Hicks” following his win on American Idol Season 6 he has been dropped from his label, J Records. Hicks isn’t the only American Idol winner to be dropped either as J Records revealed Ruben Studdard would also be joining him on the plank walk. Apparently Studdard had been dropped months and months ago, but not even that made newslines until now.
“Taylor is going to record on his own for the next album,” J Records’ Liz Morentin wrote in an email Monday. “Ruben Studdard is still signed to 19 Entertainment [the production/management company behind Idol], and is currently working on his new album, however it will not be distributed by J Records.”
I guess that just goes to show all those haters who said Hicks wasn’t a big star are finally proven wrong. Wait, what? Last season’s winner, Jordin Sparks, could be following a similar path as her debut album opened at the #10 spot on the charts with 119,000 sold. Hicks’ album broke open at #2 and 298,000 sold by comparison. Maybe American Idol 2008 will produce a brighter star this time around.

I think that Simon and Nigel did not like Taylor and so, did everything to make sure he didn’t succeed. I think he will do better on his own anyway because American Idol wants to put out a stereotypical singer and Taylor is not that. I am still a fan of his and wish him luck!
