Originally, I was not going to post on this but with all of the controversy over Hannah Montana’s concerts I figured I’d throw in my 2 cents too. Monday night my wife and daughter went to see Hannah Montana (a.k.a., Miley Cyrus) in concert in Washington, DC. The seats they had were fairly high up but they still had a great view of the stage. Since we only paid about $50 a ticket you can’t really complain too much. I have seen reports of protesters outside of her concerts protesting the high ticket prices. No one we knew who went to the concert encountered any of them though. My guess is the news made this out to be be much more than it was (as usual).
The crowd was primarily pre-teen girls with their parents. Apparently there were a few boys scattered throughout the audience but not many. My guess is that most of them had sisters in attendance. This is obviously a typical crowd for a Hannah Montana concert as they had converted all of the men’s rooms into ladies rooms for the duration of the concert at the Verizon Center. While this caused some bitter complaints on the part of a few of the Dad’s I would say this was probably good planning on the part of the Verizon Center management. The concert started with a 30 minute set by the Jonas Brothers followed by a set by Hannah herself. The Jonas Brothers then returned to the stage with Miley Cyrus before closing the concert performing as herself. My daughter had the best time. She has never been to a concert before but she is a die hard Hannah Montana fan. She and her friend were up dancing and singing along for the entire concert. They loved it.
Monday Matt had posted an article here at Wild Bluff Media showing Miley Cyrus changing places with a body double and lip syncing to the music. While my wife said she thought Montana/Cyrus may have been lip syncing as far as she could tell nothing like what happened in that video occurred during the concert in Washington. Miley did apologize several times during the concert because she was not feeling well though. Lip syncing is really not as big a deal as it once was, especially for individual performers who dance as much as they sing during their performances. I’m not bothered by it that much, especially when I have been to enough concerts by bands who were singing themselves and sounded awful, barely squeaking out the lyrics. Body doubles might be taking it a bit far though if she actually does that. The crime of course is getting caught. Even though the audience knows the magician isn’t really sawing the woman in half they don’t want to see how it’s done. That takes all the fun out of it. Not to mention the fact that Miley is only 15, so if she is doing any of these things it’s probably her handler’s idea not hers. To those people who are complaining because they spent two thousand or more dollars on tickets from some broker to see the concert, they deserve to see her sing for real. I’d also say you’re an idiot for spending two grand a ticket. That’s called having more money than sense. There is no band worth that.
At the end of the day, whether Miley Cyrus lip synced or had a body double or whatever, my daughter had an awesome time at the concert. So as far as I am concerned it was a great concert and well worth the money we spent.

I noticed that Hannah Montana has gotten really popular in just the past year or two. I have not been to one of her concerts but I heard that it not the best thing in the world but its not the worse.
