American Idol Stage

Tonight, American Idol welcomed us to Miami with the Miami Vice theme song. I wonder why Ryan was wearing socks. I liked Omaha’s Crop Circle better. Miami’s turn out was just as strong as Miami’s with over 10,000 singers in line looking to be the next American Idol. Simon and Randy liked the way Paula turned out. Her tiny leopard print skirt got both of them excited. Simon actually called it ‘very slutty’ (Tactful as always Simon). Randy definitely had the Miami Vice thing goin’ on. He was sporting the fire engine red loafers with no socks.

Shannon McGough the belching butcher the outfit she selected was frightening. She looked like she picked through Madonna’s dumpster. She was shocked when the judges told her she really couldn’t sing. Randy went so far as to call her tone deaf. Yikes. Thats bad when it comes from Randy.

The first Hollywood bound hopeful was Robbie Carrico the former boy bander who was now supposed to be a rocker. Even though he could sing, he still sounded like an N’Sync wanna be to me. Paula was put on the spot when Ghaleb sang. Simon said no (unless he was drunk) and Randy said yes. If Paula hadn’t been the deciding vote I really don’t think she would have sent him through. She just cannot say no. I didn’t like it. I would have said no. The girls from Jacksonville were the next pair to be sent through after giving Simon, Randy, and Ryan some lovin’. Suzanne Toon was another sad story hoping American Idol would change her life. Simon thought she became more attractive as soon as she started to sing which is interesting. She had some problems with her melody and pitchiness but she still got a pass to Hollywood.

Syesha Mercado, started off day two with a huge voice and a golden ticket. I personally performed the sultry tones of the next two girls Natasha and Ilsy. The entire next batch of contestants were just awful and frankly best forgotten. For once the show was not closed out with a good audition. Brandon Black was not funny and couldn’t sing. The judges had no patience for him and I can’t blame them.

American Juniors

The story of the night was of course the highly annoying, 16 year old Julie Dubela. She had been on American Juniors (what the hell was that? I never heard of it.) As soon as she started talking I found myself actively rooting against her. Simon asked her if she had ever been precocious? I give her credit she admitted she didn’t know what that meant. The judges denied her because she was overly dramatic. I applaud their decision. Especially after she couldn’t take no for an answer, stood their arguing with Simon and Randy, and then turned into valley-girl-bitch-from-hell afterwards. What a brat. You know her mother is a major stage mom. ‘Like they totally didn’t give me chance… I could have been singing at a Red Sox game… don’t try out for American Idol and don’t watch it.’ Your family must be so proud. Sweetie, you need to get over yourself.

Well that’s it from Miami. Only 17 Idol hopefuls got a golden ticket to California. I really thought Miami would have come up with more talent than that. It definitely had its share of delusional no-talents though. We’re one week closer to Hollywood. Next Tuesday the Idol auditions head back down South to Atlanta, Georgia.

um * you, actually Julie was portrayed that way and really isnt a “valley-girl-bitch-from-hell”. It is actually quite comical to read your post on * that you don’t even know what your talking about.

    Quite the potty mouth.

Well after all that I had to go back and watch Julie’s audition. Kinda wish she had gone to that Sox game too…

Yes, we know the auditions are edited and sometimes unfairly, BUT, it’s also quite clear that Julie is used to being indulged and praised and lacks the ability to see herself objectively.

All I saw was a smart-mouthed, precocious brat who has neither the talent nor the temperament to make it in a very tough business. Maybe in a few years…

    Well put, James.

I know Julie very well. She is a “precocious” 16 year old with no show biz contacts, no money to spend on teachers and agents, and no famous parents to help her in a very tough business. She works in a restaurant kitchen for spending money. She sings in nursing homes and does a great deal of charity work. She has sung the National Anthem for every professional sports organization in the Boston area. (You try standing in front of thousands and singing that song without music.) She is not a brat, but she is self confident. To all you people who seem to enjoy tearing wings off butterflies I say “SHAME ON YOU!”.

I don’t know Julie at all and while I did not care for the way this young girl spoke I actually thought her voice was very good. She did really over-do the song but the tone was really nice and I thought she had a lot to work with. Frankly I loved the footage they showed of her on American juniors singing Rainy Days and Mondays. I thought she sang that incredibly well, especially for a 12 year old girl and much preferred her natural fresh faced look and attitude in that footage to the way she came across in the AI audtion. Having said that I didn’t think she seemed bratty or spoilt but simply behaved like a very disappointed teenager after being dismissed. I was surprised they didn’t send her through especially compared with some of the people that they do (e.g. the dreadful voice on the blond they compared to Dolly Parton last night - it was like she sang with her teeth clenched. Awful).
