BB9 Houseguests

Tonight on Big Brother 9 the premiere episode moved fast. We’ve got arrivals, twists reveals, houseguest hatred, an HoH competition, and our first ever “Power Couple” HoH was determined. “But first” let’s back up and start at the beginning. We get our usual “meet the houseguests” as they each receive they key in either a funny or straight out fashion. Joshuah’s was pretty clever has they poured his golden key out of a pitcher at a bar. One by one each houseguest gathers up their belongings and heads off to the Big Brother house. If you missed the introductions you can find their pictures here.

That brings us to the front door of the BB9 house. The ladies go first with Natalie, Sheila, Allison, and Jen entering ahead of the rest. They quickly discover all the bedrooms are locked. That makes the batched entries pointless, but what the heck, let’s keep on. Chelsia, Amanda, and Sharon entered as the second group. The ladies run around reading the signs on the walls talking about pitfalls of love, etc. They also note there are only 7 women (how’d they know to expect an even 8??). That brings us to the men. The men also enter in two batches: Parker, Ryan, Joshuah, and Adam go first. Next is Jacob, Matt, Alex, Neil, and James.

At this point we have been informed that Ryan and Jen are dating in real life, but they’re not going to reveal that. When they see each other they pretend to not know each other and ask for names. Jen plays it up and keeps “forgetting” his name. Smart girl. I think I’m going to like this one. The other “couple” from outside the house aren’t too much of a couple anymore. Sharon and Jacob dated for 12 years until Jacob cheated on her. They haven’t spoken since. Dun Dun Duhhhh.

Twist Reveal:
Once everyone introduces themselves Julie makes the bit “soulmates” twist announcement. Just as we expected everyone is shocked. Immediately we get guesses and wishes from the Big Brother crew. Matt wants every woman. Well maybe not Sheila. Here’s the official breakdown of the pairings for Big Brother 9:

  • Alex + Amanda
  • James + Chelsia
  • Natalie + Matt
  • Jen + Parker
  • Joshuah + Neil
  • Jacob + Sharon
  • Allison + Ryan
  • Sheila + Adam

Sheila immediately starts her moaning and groaning. The worst part is she does it right in from of Adam. She goes on about how Big Brother got it all wrong and she wanted tall, dark, handsome. Hey, come on, Sheila. There’s only one of me. Sorry. At this point Adam starts getting pissed and whines to the other houseguests that Sheila is picking on him. His behavior of calling Sheila “Ma” isn’t helping is case any. Personally, I’m ready for both of these two to be gone.

HoH Competition:
Just like before, Big Brother is wasting no time tonight. The houseguests pair up with their “soulmate” and head to the backyard for the very first competition. Be forewarned though, o’ faithful fans, Chenbot has announced that tonight’s winners will immediately select a pair of evictees. You heard right. No nominees this week. Just evictees, hand picked by tonight’s HoH winners. The first competition requires one of each pair to be harnessed into a wire kinda swing thingy (that’s its technical term). The other person has to get underneath them and grab on tight. Both houseguests are then lifted into the sky where they’ll hang on until they can no longer, um, hang on.

First out is Sheila and Adam after Sheila declares she has to get out of there. Adam is ticked off and immediately declares in a Diary Room sidebar that they’re done for. I’d agree. Neil and Joshuah quickly fall next after giving up.

One by one they drop until Julie makes her next announcement. Beneath the dangling pairs is a pillow worth $10,000 to whoever can reach it without falling and then go on to win the whole competition. Everyone but Matt & Natalie go for it. Allison falls trying to get her pillow and later admits her gambling addiction led her to go for it (She’s a recovered gambler who considers herself a profession gambler. Sounds healed to me, right?). It finally comes down to Natalie & Matt and Jen & Parker. J&P managed to snag their pillow while N&M didn’t even bother. J&P assure N&M of their safety, so N&M drop since they are promised safety and J&P would win $10K.

So there you have it. Our first BB9 “power couple” HoH, as Julie deems it, is Jen & Parker. Tomorrow night (Wednesday) we’ll discover who was evicted by this first HoH. I know I’m hoping it’ll be Adam and Sheila considering how much negative energy they’ll add to the house if they stay. Or if you’re anxious to get in on the fun you could get on the live feeds and see right now for yourself. Tomorrow’s episode is pre-recorded, so the first pair have already walked out that front door. You can share your guess over at the Big Brother 9 Forum as well.
