American Idol Stage

Looking for the American Idol phone numbers to vote?

Tonight American Idol Season 7 Top 12 remaining men got their first chance to sing directly for the fans. That of course means the fans also had their first chance to let this season’s contestants know what they thought by their votes. The theme for tonight’s performances was the music from the 60’s. This was a tough night for me to Here’s how the guys did:

David Hernandez: In The Midnight Hour
It was OK. Not awesome but, not bad for the first performance of the season.
Randy: “I thought you did a pretty good job… just watch the long notes”
Paula: “The perfect vibrato…”
Simon: “It was better than I thought it was going to be… the middle was a little bit rabbit in the headlights… I didn’t hear anything distinct in your voice…”

Chikezie Eze: More Today Than Yesterday
I loved the pink leisure suit. It was little more 70’s than 60’s but that’s Ok. The start was a little rocky but once he got going it sounded great. I really liked the slower lower take he had on this song.
Randy: “It was awright, awright, yeh, yeh, yeh, yeh.”
Paula: “I loved Chikezie’s singing…I think you did a very nice job”
Simon: “Here is my problem Chicuzzi… I absolutely hated the whole performance. The suit is hideous… it was all so old fashioned and cheezy.”

David Cook: So Happy Together
David sounded really good. I don’t really like this song but he gave it a very original rock sound to it which I really liked.
Randy: “If he can pull this off he can do anything”
Paula: “Its worthy of great praise.”
Simon: “I thought it was good. You almost made it believable”

Jason Yeager: Moon River
Jason has a good voice but based on this performance he might be a better Broadway performer than American Idol. It was a very Light FM kind of performance.
Randy: “You had a couple of problems with that song pitchwise.”
Paula: “I did my first ballet recital to that song.”
Simon: “I think it was very cruise ship… he’s like a reliable old sheep dog.”

Robbie Carrico: One
Robbie did a fine job singing this song. I think we were all hoping he would rock out a little more on it. I’m sure he’ll pull out the hard core rock a little later in the season.
Randy: “Yeh, you had me rockin’ out.”
Paula: “The vocals weren’t over the type but they were right in the pocket.”
Simon: “The only performance tonight which has an semblance of making sense.”

David Archuleta: Shop Around
David did a good job singing Shop Around but, he really didn’t do anything to make it his own. The big finish was about as close to anything original he did with this song. A very safe performance. The judges did not agree with me though.
Randy: “You sang that song so mature for someone 17.”
Paula: “Brave and bold choice for you.”
Simon: “When you got it, you got it. Best performance of the night so far.”

Danny Noriega: Jailhouse Rock
I will give Danny the fact that he had the most energy of any of the performances up to this point. Beyond that though, it sounded and looked like bad karaoke in a Tokyo sake bar.
Randy: “The vocals were Ok… it was kinda hot.”
Paula: “This was a safer song which just allowed you to be the performer… there are going to be a lot of colors of Danny coming out.”
Simon: “I thought the performance was grotesque.”

Luke Menard: Everybody’s Talking At Me
I have mixed feelings about this one. It was a little too mellow. I don’t know if it is just that I don’t like the song or I didn’t like his performance.
Randy: “It was very pitchy for me all the way through.”
Paula: “This was not the best song choice for you.”
Simon: “It was forgettable.”

Colton Berry: Susupicious Minds
I thought this was another mediocre performance but, I also think Colton has potential. As he gets more comfortable on the Idol stage his performances will dramatically improve.
Randy: “You did a pretty good job with that.”
Paula: “It was nice to see a different side of you… I don’t think it was your best performance.”
Simon: “It was OK… what did I get from that performance? Nothing.”

Garrett Haley: Breaking Up Is Hard To Do
I agree with Randy, it was just kinda boring. Snoozer. Garrett is definitely in danger on Wednesday night.
Randy: “The thing was this performance was you didn’t do anything with it. It was just kinda boring.”
Paula: “If you stick with that ”
Simon: “It was boring, you sounded whiny, and you looked terrified.”

Jason Castro: Daydream
Jason took a risk with the guitar. He was the only contestant to use an instrument. I really figured Simon was going to give him a hard time about it. I really liked his vocals but again, I didn’t think it was really anything original.
Randy: “It was awright man, awright.”
Paula: “You blew me away… you picked a song that was perfect for you”
Simon: “I thought that was in the top 2 performances of the night. You like David have got it.”

Michael Johns: Light My Fire
The Aussie definitely had the best song choice of the night. His vocals were really good. His performance was a little weak but again I think he has a lot of potential.
Randy: “You were da bomb tonight!”
Paula: “You were on fire tonight.”
Simon: “You are the most consistent contestant we’ve had. I didn’t like it as much as Bohemian Rhapsody.”

Here are the American Idol Phone Numbers

Don’t forget tomorrow night its the ladies’ turn to strut their stuff. I’m especially looking forward to seeing what Amanda Overmyer has in store for us. See you then.

Is it just me or did the majority of the guys seem a little on the feminine side? I mean more than half of them sang higher than most women. Nothing wrong with that it just seem that there is a proponderous of it this season instead of a more rounded group of different styles.

Yeh, I noticed that some of them were a bit on the feminine side.

  1. American Idol: Top 12 Women Performance Preview - Feb 20, 2008 | Wild Bluff Media : Entertainment Examined

[...] Last night the American Idol men put up some decent performances nothing truly spectacular. I really didn’t expect too much though. This was the guys first shot at the American Idol stage. The biggest complaint from the judges was that most of the men just came out and sang their songs. The judges didn’t feel like enough of the men really made enough of an effort to make the songs their own and make them relevant to a modern audience. I’ll be interested to see if the women take this lesson to heart. I’m actually much more excited to see the girls than the guys. As a group I think the women are much stronger contestants than the guys. I couldn’t even remember half of the guys names. So unfortunately for the women, my expectations for tonight are a bit higher than they were last night. [...]
