Tonight on Big Brother 9 it’s time for the first Power of Veto competition and ceremony. On Sunday we saw Amanda & Alex nominate Jen & Parker along with Allison & Ryan, so now its their turn to try and save their butts! The episode launches right into the post nominations aftermath. It’s obvious now that Jen’s decision to reveal her relationship with Ryan was a bad one. That really was a plain and simple dumb move. They had a great chance to watch out for each other secretly and instead they turned it against themselves.
Finally Big Brother decides to address the whole “what happened to Neil” event. If you blinked then you probably missed it. CBS just flies right through this event like nothing was out of the normal. I’d have to assume they did this out of a courtesy to Neil. If you’re interested in hearing more about it then you can read this message from Neil that he posted on his MySpace page. The short of it is that Neil left for a personal reason and Joshuah was given the choice to bring back either Sharon or Jacob. Easy choice. Sharon is now back in the game and everyone is happy to see her.
No time for playing nice right now as Big Brother 9 is ready to settle into some geometry lessons with a love triangle. Amanda and Alex are “soulmates” but Amanda likes Parker, because as she’s said many times on the live feeds, she prefers to date black guys over white guys. So when Amanda and Parker go into full body massage routines in the spa room Alex doesn’t take it very well. Alex is clearly jealous and he admits it as he tells Amanda he has feelings for her. She doesn’t feel the same way and this is going to cause problems. Mostly for Parker.
Lots more room for love tonight, even in the tightest of quarters. Ryan and Jen are making out in the bathroom (classy) when they get so horny they have to have sex right there in the toilet stall (really classy). Parker comes walking back to use the bathroom and finds a shaking bathroom door plus assorted adult talk (really, really classy). Jen & Ryan emerge a little embarrassed and sneak off like it didn’t happen. What they didn’t show on TV was how Parker asked her to shower up before returning to their shared bed. Jen didn’t. If you had been watching on the live feeds then you’d know how this whole scene played out very differently.
Enough of loving, let’s get to some hating. James comes up with the quirky idea that the four-colored hamster toy in the hamster cage is a sign from Big Brother that there are four couples in the house. I’m thinking maybe the four relates to the number of voices in his head. Either way he finds an open ear with Alex who takes this to mean that Amanda and Parker are really a secret couple like Jen & Ryan. The accusations fly and the curse words soar in the backyard as Parker and James go at it. Parker is angry to be accused of something like that and James is angry because he didn’t accuse him of anything. Basically it was usual ol’ Parker making an ass out of himself and increasing the size of the target on his back. Rather non-productive for a man on the chopping block.
Power of Veto competition time. The couples are selected: Amanda & Alex, Jen & Parker, Allison & Ryan, and Natalie & Matt. The challenge is for the men to spin a wheel which has their partner strapped on to it. The first couple to 300 spins wins. If the any of the women take their hands off a button on the handle they’re disqualified. Allison & Ryan are out first. Amanda takes her hand off the button intentionally, though she denies it, and they are the second couple out. The comp comes down to J&P and N&M. Jen is yelling at Parker to go faster and spin it better. She’s pretty much heckling her partner, Parker, in a non-helpful way. Finally Natalie & Matt reach the 300 spins first and are the first PoV winners of the season.
Back in the house we hear that Parker is sure he’ll be safe and that Matt & Natalie will use the PoV to save him and Jen. He would expect this because Matt said he would if he won. Now wouldn’t it just be crazy if Matt decided not to do what he told him? Oh yes, definitely crazy. So what do you think happens? After listening to very brief statements from the two nominee pairs N&M announce they are not using the PoV and the nominees will stand as they are. This whole ceremony is stupid as after the pairs plead for rescue the PoV holders never get a chance to discuss, which means they had already decided. BB is going to need to adapt this ceremony if they want anyone to take it seriously.
So there we are. The broadcast shows are now all caught up with the 24/7 live feeds. Tomorrow night we’ll get the first live eviction ceremony of the season. Who do you think will go and who will stay? Share your thoughts at the Big Brother 9 Forum!
