American Idol Stage

Looking for the American Idol phone numbers to vote?

Bring on the ladies! The men had a rough go of it last night. The American Idol judges weren’t overly impressed with the guys. The biggest criticism Randy, Simon, and Paula had for the men was that they were not making enough of an effort to modernize the 60’s music and make the songs their own. The girls had the opportunity to hear that criticism and use it for their performances. Several of the girls are suffering badly from the flu. Hopefully it won’t affect anyone too badly. Here’s how they did:

Kristy Lee Cook: Rescue Me
It was OK. I didn’t think Kristy had enough energy. She was one of the girls suffering from the flu. I think given another chance she might do a little better.
Randy: “It wasn’t your best performance.”
Paula: “Don’t ever let that [sickness] get in the way…”
Simon: “The song didn’t suit you. You’re performance was robotic.”

Joanne Borgella: I Say A Little Pray For You
I really liked Joanne’s voice. I thought that was a strong performance, maybe a little rocky at the beginning. Overall for a week one performance I thought it was good. She’s no Aretha Franklin but still a good start
Randy: “It was a little rough at the beginning”
Paula: “I liked it, didn’t love it.”
Simon: “I didn’t like it at all.”

Alaina Whitaker: More Today Than Yesterday
Alaina did an awesome job with that song. Much better than Chikezie Eze. I think she did a great job bringing that song into 21st century.
Randy: “It was like goin’ on, I was like What?!”
Paula: “You nailed it. You had the best ending I’ve heard”
Simon: “You’re very good. You are sailing through to the next round after that.”

Amanda Overmyer: Baby Please Don’t Go
That was the most unique and original performance of the top 24. Although I agree that this was not her best performance. I liked her before, I like her even more now. Go Amanda!
Randy: “You got that bluesy rocker chick thing goin’ on”
Paula: “I love everything you do.”
Simon: “I really like you. I genuinely think you are authentic. I hope you stay around for a while.”

Amy Davis: Where the Boys Are
Wow, that was really good. Amy surprised me tonight. I actually liked Amy’s version better than the original. It was a little more sultry. I thought that was a cool take on that song. The judges didn’t agree with me though.
Randy: “I didn’t think that was great. There were alot of pitch problems.”
Paula: “The camera loves you…it was lackluster.”
Simon: “There is nothing much to add… it was a very boring song.”

Brooke White: So Happy Together
I didn’t like this one very much. She has a good voice, but yo dawg, it just wasn’t great for me. David Cook actually sang that better last night
Randy: “The front part of the song wasn’t good, but the back part of the song you got your slaying on.”
Paula: “You have your own thing. You picked the right song.”
Simon: “I think you choose the right song. I feel like I’m in some commercial for washing up liquid in the 1960’s. I’m struggling with the relevance.”

Alexandria Lushington: Spinning Wheel
Alexandria’s performance was pretty good. She was very animated and had a lot of energy but, the vocals were not the best. Alexandria may have been another of the women still battling the flu.
Randy: “You blew the doors off that. You got it, it was hot.”
Paula: “You took control…you thought about your performance from top to bottom. I saw more confidence in your performance than any other one tonight.”
Simon: “I didn’t get it. I didn’t think the vocals were great. It was like a terrible 60’s musical.”

Kady Malloy: A Groovy Kind of Love
I thought Kady was fantastic. I will probably go an try to find this one on iTunes. Thats how much I liked it. She cheated a little in that she basically sang the cover by Phil Collins but her voice is amazing. Once again the judges and I didn’t see eye to eye on this on.
Randy: “It never quite got there for me.”
Paula: “You look really pretty tonight. I want to see the life of you more.”
Simon: “Amazingly for once, I agree with Paula. That was like Night of the Living Dead. You have to lighten up.”

Asia’H Epperson: Take Another Little Piece Of My Heart
I’m was almost afraid to say it but I loved that one. I figured if I liked it the judges would hate it. For once, I agreed with them. Asia’H was definitely the best performance of the night.
Randy: “I was impressed, I was impressed, nice, nice.”
Paula: “You had fun.”
Simon: “My favorite of the night.”

Ramiele Malubay: You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me
Ramiele has an amazing voice. That was just an incredible performance. She is going to get a lot of votes.
Randy: “Very classy, almost like a pro, very hot.”
Paula: “You’re a force to be reckoned with.”
Simon: “You out sung every single person.”

Syesha Mercado: Tobacco Road
Another amazing performance. The women brought it tonight! The men are in big trouble this season. As Randy would say, Syesha can blow!
Randy: “All in all, I really liked it.”
Paula: “Joyful, fun, big! Way to go.”
Simon: “It wasn’t your best performance…you are probably one of the best girls.”

Carly Smithson: The Shadow of Your Smile
Carly has some pipes on her. Carly was sick too but didn’t let it get to her. I didn’t like her song choice but she sang it well. Carly’s biggest problem is going to not peak too early. Too often singers like Carly set expectations so high early in the season that they cannot meet them or demonstrate as significant an improvement over the course of the season that many of the other performers can.
Randy: “That is what the show is all about. The best vocal of the top 24 right there.”
Paula: “You are the lucky coin in the pocket.”
Simon: “Everything about it was a let down for me.”

That’s it. The first performances of the season are complete. All that’s left is to await the results Wednesday night. Stop by during the day tomorrow and we’ll post our predictions for which 4 of the top 24 will get their dreams shattered tomorrow night.

I thought the guys were miles better than the women. The only decent women were Ramiele, Asia’h, Syesha, Alaina, Carly and Brooke. The rest were quite mediocre and a couple were downright dreadful. No way is there anywhere near the talent on the girls side as the boys side.

  2. Erwin

i agree, ramiele, asia’h and syesha are the best at this point of the competition…. wish you all the best….

[...] Last night, the women tore up the American Idol stage. Overall, the girls as a group did way better than the men on Tuesday night. All of Season 7’s performers have no had there first shot at showing the fans what they had to offer. For four of those performers, that will be the only chance they get. Tonight, four the 24 American Idol hopefuls will have their dreams of stardom destroyed by America’s vote. Two men and two women will be going home tonight. Based on the judges’ comments (as opposed to my opinion) the women who are probably in danger tonight are: [...]
