Welcome back. Its time to send some Idol hopefuls home. To start the night, as usual on results night, the American Idol performers took the stage to perform together. Tonight, the did a mix of 60’s tunes. I’m not a big fan of the music from that era so that was strike one for me. I’m also not a big fan of late 60’s fashion which unfortunately was strike two. The actual performances by the contestants were a mixed bag. Two in particular stood out for me though. Garrett was not good. Amanda looked very uncomfortable which, is understandable but still disappointing since she is one of my favorite girls.
Yikes! Ryan didn’t waste any time tonight. Usually they narrow the first a little bit at a time until there are only a few left in danger. Ryan went right for the kill. He called Garrett Haley to the stage and said goodbye. I’m not sorry that Garrett got sent home. I didn’t think he was very good and he didn’t have much of a personality either. I rewatched the girls perform earlier today and he was clapping with limp wrists off tempo. That kind of sealed my opinion of him. Good choice America. At this point in the show I’m one for one on my predictions.
When sending the first of the women home, Ryan did psych me out a little bit. He called Kristy Lee Cook to the stage. She had a rough night last night because of the flu so, I thought it was possible that she was going home. Instead, Ryan tells Kristy she is safe and calls Amy Davis to take her place on the stage. Amy wasn’t quite as lucky. Amy joined Garrett for the long ride home. I really liked her last night but, after I rewatched the show today, I realized that I may have been mistaken in liking her performance. I wasn’t however mistaken in my prediction that Amy was going home tonight. That’s 2/2.
I had heard that Paula was going to perform her new single, Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow, on the show tonight. I was disappointed that they only showed the music video. It’s a live show, Paula is there, they have a band, she should have performed it live. I first heard Paula sing her new song when she performed it prior to the Super Bowl.
Following the Paula Abdul intermission, Ryan called Amanda Overmyer and Joanne Borgella to the stage. He immediately told the rest of the women that they were safe. I was shocked and horrified that Amanda was in danger. I really like her but, I know she isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. I thought, is it really possible that Amanda might be going home already? Thankfully, after a commercial Ryan told Amanda that she could have a seat. (Whew.) Joanne’s performance last night really wasn’t the best. When asked about it, Simon definitely agreed that Joanne was the right choice to be going home because it wasn’t her best performance and she didn’t choose the right song. Joanne was the third contestant I predicted would be going home tonight.
When it came time for Ryan to announce the second guy to be going home tonight. I was really surprised when he called out Colton Berry and Chikezie Eze. I didn’t think that either of them should be going home. Chikezie ended up being allowed to sit down. That meant Colton was going home. I really didn’t think Colton deserved to be off the show yet. Jason Yeager is lucky because if I had to pick a second guy to send home it would have been him. Oh well, I picked 3 out of the 4 so thats not too shabby and Jason Yeager will have his turn to go home soon. If you really liked Colton you can still download his song on iTunes. That’s it, week 1 of the competition is over. Our American Idol performers now have a week to get themselves ready to go again. The guys are up again on Tuesday night and the girls on Wednesday.
