American Idol Stage

Looking for the American Idol phone numbers to vote?

Awright Dawg, it’s the American Idol ladies’ turn to take the stage again. The guys did pretty well last night. Although, the judges hammered several of them for poor song selection. Hopefully the girls did a better job. Even if they pick the right song, they will have a hard time comparing to David Archuleta’s rendition of Imagine by John Lennon last night. That was amazing. All three judges had nothing but good things to say about it. David is going to be a tough act to follow tonight. Here’s how the ladies did:

Carly Smithson: Crazy On You
Awesome performance, great vocals, what more can you ask for. Carly is going to be tough to beat. After reviewing the performances a second time, this is probably my favorite performance of the evening and the one I will most likely download.
Randy: “It was awright man, awright.”
Paula: “You did an amazing job.”
Simon: “A much better performance than last week… I don’t think you’ve chosen the right song yet… You’re the girl they all have to beat. ”

Syesha Mercado: Mister Jones
Syesha has an awesome voice. I hated that baby cry she did during her per-performance video but when she sings it is magical. The judges didn’t like it too much, but I did.
Randy: “This is not a great song choice for you… always pick stuff that you can give’em what you got”
Paula: “When you power its like piercing through… I liked the interpretation.”
Simon: “I thought it was indulgent… it isn’t a song thats designed for your voice.”

Brooke White: You’re so Vain
I really never liked this song, but I thought Brooke did a good job with it. Like David Cook last night, Brooke needs to be careful with the guitar. It worked for her tonight, but I’m not sure the performers are doing themselves any favors by playing it. In some cases it actually
Randy: “It was a great song choice for you… I don’t think you brought anything different to it.”
Paula: “It was the perfect song choice for you. I liked what you did with it. Everyone was digging it.”
Simon: “I absolutely loved it.”

Ramiele Malubay: My Hearts on Fire
This is tough. There are just so many great singers in the girl’s group. She has an awesome voice too. This may not have been her best performance, but she should be back and will only continue to improve.
Randy: “This was just OK for me vocally. Wasn’t my favorite choice for you.”
Paula: “You didn’t get to perform your magic.”
Simon: “You were much much better last week.. this is one of those performances I’m not going to remember that well. You’re on of the top three best singers in the competition.”

Kristy Lee Cook: You’re No Good
Kristy Lee was obviously feeling better tonight. That was five great performances in a row. Kristy Lee sounded miles better than she did last week. I liked the way her voice sounded this week, deep, and more sultry maybe. It was good.
Randy: “That was 100% improvement from last week. I was waiting for a break out moment.”
Paula: “You’re back, you’re back, you’re back. It was a good song choice for you.”
Simon: “I couldn’t remember what you sang last week. Much better than last week. I don’t know how to label you at the moment.”

Amanda Overmyer: Carry On My Wayward Son
No surprise, Amanda picked one of my favorite songs from the 70’s. This however was not her best performance. She shouted a bit too much in the middle. Amanda still does not seem very comfortable up on the stage performing. Hopefully she will find her voice before she gets voted off. I really like Amanda, but I think she is going to have a hard time winning this competition.
Randy: “It wasn’t the right song choice for you. There are too many instrumental breaks. Way too much melody for a bluesy girl like you.”
Paula: “You got some moves, you can dance, so don’t be all shy. You gotta do what feels right. This was not the right song for you.”
Simon: “Everything felt contrived. None of it felt natural or real. I really, really, didn’t get that.”

Alaina Whitaker: Hopeless Devoted to You
Considering Alaina was born more than a decade after tonight’s it’s no surprising she picked a song from Grease. She did a really good job with it though. I thought it was funny when Paula called her mature right after Alaina described how she didn’t like the food on her plate to touch during her pre-performance video.
Randy: “I don’t think that was the right song for you either.”
Paula: “I don’t think it was as bad a Randy thought.”
Simon: “It was almost as if your grandmother prepared you for this audition. Itwas all so old fashioned. It was all a bit “pageanty” for me. I think you’re one of the dark horses in this competition but you have to sort yourself out and become more relevant.”

Alexandria Lushington: If You Leave Me Now
Alexandria just didn’t hold a candle to the other women tonight. This was the weakest performance so far tonight. This was just such a karaoke version. After that performance I really think Alexandria could be in danger of going home tomorrow night.
Randy: “That was a such a safe kind of boring choice for me.”
Paula: “You made it your own. I never heard a female take on that song.”
Simon: “I think you’re struggling right now. You were inconsistent on the song. It just wasn’t you. It was boring.”

Kady Malloy: Magic Man
I thought Kady did a great job singing Heart. This was her best performance so far. She had the vocals and the moves. The dress wasn’t what I think of when I think Heart or even rock but thats nothing a good stylist can’t fix later in the season. I really liked her performance. Like Amanda once she finds her voice she’ll be great if she gets the chance.
Randy: “You just never quite found the notes for me. It just didn’t work.”
Paula: “When you powered you sounded great but on the lower notes you didn’t sound great.”
Simon: “I just don’t think it went anywhere.”

Asia’H Epperson: Don’t Cry Out Loud
Asia’H had some real problems hitting the notes tonight. I liked the way she sang it and she had a few great moments and she was sick but vocals just weren’t that good.
Randy: “Very difficult song to sing. I thought you did a really good job with it I thought. Nice.”
Paula: “You had problems with the low notes. The ending is what counts on this song, and you brought it home”
Simon: “One of the diva songs of all time, you have to be one heck of a singer to pull it off, and unfortunately you’re not. You nearly did it but you’re just not that good a singer. You almost got away with it but the song was just too big for you and I think it showed you up.”

That’s it. Tune back in tomorrow night when the American Idol fans send home two more performers. Don’t forget to vote for your favorites otherwise it could be them. Don’t forget you can also download your favorite this year as well.
