Tonight was tough. Even with 16 contestants I thought it was difficult to pick four American Idol contestants to send home. No matter which four it was, some of them would be true talents. Tonight the show began with the return of a previous American Idol favorite, Blake Lewis. Blake performed his new single How Many Words. I liked it and I’m sure many of Blake’s other fans did too. I’m waiting until they bring back Jordan Sparks to sing Tattoo. After Blake was done, it was time to send some of our performers home.
Ryan first called up David Cook, David Archuleta, and Jason Castro. This surprised me because these are probably the three best guys. That was why I was relieved when Ryan told them they were all safe. Next it was Brooke White, Syesha Mercado, and Kady Malloy’s turn in the barrel. This time not all of them would be safe. Kady was the unlucky performer to be sent home. She had a rough night last night but I was still disappointed because I liked her. Actually as I think about it she really hasn’t had a great performance since Hollywood week, so even though I was disappointed I was not surprised.
Then it was the guy’s turn to lose one of their number. Ryan called out David Hernandez, Michael Johns, and Luke Menard. This time, I agreed 100% (or should I say one million percent, like Randy) with America’s vote. Luke Menard was sent packing. I haven’t liked Luke since week 1. He would do great on Broadway but not on American Idol.
The next three performers to be called out by Ryan were Ramiele Malubay, Carly Smithson, and Amanda Overmyer. Since there were still two more girls on the bench, I knew none of these three would be going home. So that left Kristi Lee Cook and Asia’H Epperson. I’ve thought both of these women were really good, so I hated to see either of them go. I actually thought it would be Kristi. She had an awesome performance last night but, she has had some less than perfect performances in the past. In the end, it was Asia’H who went home though.
Finally, last but not least, we were left with Chikezie Eze and Danny Noriega. I’ve liked Chikezie a lot over the past few weeks so I was hoping it wasn’t going to be him. Danny has never been my favorite so, I was somewhat relieved when Ryan announced that it would be Danny who left the show.
That’s it. Only 12 performers remain. We’re about to move onto the next phase of the competition.
