Heath Ledger

Everything looked like it was going to go so nice and sweet despite the terrible situation of Heath Ledger’s death in January. First there was the bad news that Ledger hadn’t updated his will in years, leaving out ex-girlfriend Michelle Williams and their daughter Matilda. But Ledger’s father, Kim, did the stand up thing and said that Williams is still part of their family and Matilda would always be taken care of.

Then things started to get ugly. Kim Ledger’s brother came out and announced that Kim had already once inherited a large fortune and quickly ran it into debt, casting doubts of his ability to properly handle Heath’s estate.

Now Michelle Williams’ father, Larry, is demanding that Ledger’s family reveal to him all the details of his estate and assets. He’s concerned that his daughter and granddaughter will be cheated out of their share. Call me crazy and I’m no lawyer, but is there any legal obligation for the Ledgers to reveal that to him?

WENN reports on Larry William’s interview with an Australian newspaper:

Speaking to Australia’s The Sunday Telegraph, Larry says, “It’s real simple: just come clean with everything. It’s so easy to resolve this. He just has to say where the income went and where the assets are. I’m certain that there is grieving in the Ledger family but (lawyers for) Kim have already filed papers in New York, so it seems like it’s time to be transparent about it. I have no idea what Heath Ledger was worth (but) they certainly haven’t stated all of the assets to the court.”

Michelle still hasn’t made any public statements on the issue, so I don’t know where she stands on all this but right now the whole thing is sliding down an ugly slope fast.

I’m no lawyer either, but it seems to me the girlfriend, with a minor child, is the only one with any rights in the case. Her father should have none.

That’d make more sense to me. Matilda should have some right to it and as an infant her mother should represent her.

Lots of other folks trying to get their hands in the honey pot.
