Warner Brothers

Warner Bros. has just won out in the bidding war to make a big screen adaptation of Josh Lieb’s book “I Am a Genius of Unspeakable Evil and I Want to Be Your Class President.” Lieb, who has written for NewsRadio, The Simpsons, and The Daily Show (perhaps I should have reversed that order) will be brought on to pen the transfer, so you can count on it remaining faithful to the original story. The story sounds hilarious and I’ll be interested to see how dark this goes or if it’ll be targeted at kids instead. While my license says 28, my mind says 12, so I should be covered either way.

The premise centers on a chubby 13-year old boy who everybody assumes is the dumbest kid in the seventh grade. He really is an evil genius and the third-richest person on the planet, with a secret compound beneath his unsuspecting family’s modest suburban home. He hides his identity to keep himself safe from his enemies and because he can’t legally claim his empire until he turns 18.

The story concerns the boy’s attempt to prove himself in the eyes of his do-gooder father by being elected class president. Unfortunately, the tactics he uses to stage coups in Central America prove to be less effective in running a middle-school campaign.

I’m thinking Dexter’s Laboratory, the chubby kid from Two & A Half Men, and Witherspoon’s “Election”. Hopefully they’ve got better ideas than I do, but the fact that McG is on to produce (please not to direct, please) is a little concerning.
