Dancing with the Stars

The remaining nine Season 6 Dancing With The Stars couples took to the dance floor tonight to perform either the Paso Doble or the Viennese Waltz. The big questions in my mind tonight were whether Marissa & Tony could come back after their disastrous scores last week and whether Julianne can make Adam look like a dancer again this week.

Kristi Yamaguchi & Mark Ballas

Dance: Paso Doble
Kristi and Mark gave us their standard high quality performance this week. Kristi was working really hard to show emotion while she was dancing. Although I found Mark’s weekly mouth gymnastics were very distracting. Len really liked the perfromance and choreography. Len still didn’t think the emotions came through very well. Bruno completely disagreed. He liked the emotion and appreciated the difficulty of the performance. Carrie Ann thought it was fantastic.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 10
Len Goodman: 9
Bruno Tonioli: 10
Total: 29
(First 10s of the season)

Priscilla Presley & Louis van Amstel
Dance: Viennese Waltz
Priscilla has been one of the judge’s favorites. I thought the judges would like this one. They did but, they had some real technical problems with the performance. Bruno liked the interpretation but criticized Priscilla’s shoulder framework. Carrie Ann really liked Priscilla’s facial expressions. Carrie Ann also accused Priscilla of a lift! Len thought it was elegant but thought it looked a bit rushed. Len also caught the lift as well.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 7
Len Goodman: 7
Bruno Tonioli: 8
Total: 22

Adam Carrola & Julianne Hough
Dance: Paso Doble
Can Adam possibly perform two good routines in a row? I thought it might have been possible until he showed up on a unicycle. When I saw that and the Zorro costume I just groaned. I have to say while the humor fell flat for me, the dance was Carrie Ann gave them an A for creativity. Len thought Adam did well for Adam but compared to the other dancers he wasn’t sure Adam was really going to hold up. Bruno concurred.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 6 (Boo!)
Len Goodman: 7
Bruno Tonioli: 6 (Boo!)
Total: 19

Marlee Matlin & Fabian Sanchez
Dance: Viennese Waltz
Beautiful. Smooth. Elegant. To me this was everything a Viennese Waltz should be. Brilliant. Len thought it was very, very good. He thought Marlee could work on her posture a little bit. Bruno was impressed with how well she interprets the music. He also agreed with Len about the posture. Marlee & Fabian’s performance made Carrie Ann cry (in a good way, not like the way Adam’s dancing makes us cry!). I thought they should have gotten better scores from the judges, especially Carrie Ann.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 8
Len Goodman: 8
Bruno Tonioli: 8
Total: 24

Mario & Karina Smirnoff
Dance: Paso Doble
Much better. That was the Mario & Karina we have come to expect. Their performance was exciting and energetic. Bruno called him Mario the Conquerer. He liked it very very much. Carrie Ann liked it. She thought they were much more focused. Carrie Ann also thought it was awkward in places. Len told them they he only ever saw one style of dance from them. Len wants them to work on the styling a little bit more.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 8
Len Goodman: 7
Bruno Tonioli: 9
Total: 24

Jason Taylor & Edyta Sliwinska
Dance: Viennese Waltz
That was just alright for me. It was a pretty basic waltz. I didn’t see anything really exciting or special about the routine (unless you include the spot where Jason tripped). Carrie Ann thought it was beautiful. She thought it was very seductive and was willing to forgive Jason’s trip. Len thought that was a wow of a waltz. You make the Viennese Waltz sexy, like mating ritual. This is where the fans and the judges may differ. I know the judges loved it but, I don’t think this is a routine that the fans are going to remember and vote for when the show is over.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 10
Len Goodman: 9
Bruno Tonioli: 10
Total: 29
(So overrated).

Cristian De La Fuente & Cheryl Burke
Dance: Paso Doble
There were so many things interesting about thisw dance from Shirtless Cristian’s shout to Cheryl’s revealing latex dress and thats before we even get to the dancing. I thought that was pretty cool. Len liked the passion and drama even though he didn’t think they conquered the music. Bruno told Cristian he was like the biggest bull in the arena. Carrie Ann thought the music was very powerful but she thought they managed it.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 8
Len Goodman: 8
Bruno Tonioli: 9
Total: 25

Shannon Elizabeth & Derek Hough

Dance: Viennese Waltz
Derek was able to perform despite his neck injury during the week. Way to be a competitor Derek! I really like Shannon and Derek so I was happy to see them as a couple on the dance floor tonight. Even more, I loved their waltz. Shannon looked fantastic and whimsical out there tonight. Bruno said the Shannon had graduated into a classic, elegant beauty. Carrie Ann thought their waltz was refreshing. Len thought that their waltz was the best performance he had seen tonight.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 9
Len Goodman: 10
Bruno Tonioli: 9
Total: 28
(Not bad, not bad at all!)

Marissa Jaret Winokur & Tony Dovolani
Dance: Paso Doble
Its a good think they did the Paso. I don’t think Marissa is elegant enough to pull of the Waltz. It was good. I didn’t like it as much as some of the other Pasos tonight. Carrie Ann thought it was terrific. Len liked it and told them to keep it up. Bruno thought Marissa was a strong performer and also told her to keep taking risks like tonight.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 8
Len Goodman: 8
Bruno Tonioli: 8
Total: 24
(Their best score this season)

Judges Leader Board
Kristi & Mark: 29
Jason & Edyta: 29
Shannon & Derek: 28
Cristian & Cheryl: 25
Marlee & Fabian: 24
Mario & Karina: 24
Marissa & Tony: 24
Priscilla & Louis: 22
Adam & Julianne: 19

marlee and mario should have rec’d better scores than cristian, he was not as good as them. they were over rated, underclothed-of course that’s for votes…

  2. Matt

I think you’re right, lack of clothing goes a long way.
