The Bachelor starts with a Matt montage about leaving London to find true love in America. Then we see how everyone is frustrated with Robin and that there is a romantic date into the past, while two others fight for his heart on a two-on-one. Tonight ought to be interesting!
Chris Harrison walks into the room full of ladies and talks about the upcoming dating week. I think life would be a lot easier if everyone had a Chris Harrison to plan out their dating lives…but anyway. There is one group date, one one-on-one and one two-on-one where there is only one rose and the person who does not receive it must go home. The first box arrives and all but Marshana, Holly, and Amanda are invited for tennis and tea. Robin is really excited to see Matt.
Group Date:
Matt talks about how he secured a private estate for the date. Shayne talks about her skirt being too big. They are playing tennis and Ashlee’s rockin’ out on the tennis court while Shayne is a bit annoyed. Kelly thinks she is the best one out there, but Matt only notices that “Chelsea looks ridiculously hot today.” Chelsea and Shayne do gymnastics for Matt and when Chelsea realizes Shayne has done this before, she compliments her mad skills. Robin’s jealous (but pretends that it’s dumb that girls will do gymnastics at a tennis match). Ashlee gets some alone time and he tells her that she seems to have an easy time handling everything. He continues that he feels that they have a “brilliant connection physically” and he loves her singing (which she then does some more). The girls talk smack about her.
Next up is the tea. Whoa, what a set up! He’s got the works in terms of sandwiches, cookies, tea and all that goes with a real tea party. Robin commands the conversation with her chatter about how her parents don’t drink coffee and went to all this trouble to find a tea maker that worked like a coffee pot and the girls are, as usual, annoyed with her. They’re about to be more frustrated because she’s taking him for some alone time. Matt tells her he likes spending time with her and she tells him she’s “falling for him pretty hard.” He’s really impressed and I think she’s just a really good actress.
Shayne and Robin get into it a little later when Shayne lets her know how badly she steps on all the girls’ toes. Go Shayne! Robin cries and says she didn’t mean to hurt people and just doesn’t know how to interact with girls. I say just use your common sense, but she must not have gotten that gene.
Back at the house, the date box arrives for Amanda’s one-on-one. They are going to take a “trip to the past” and Marshana’s freaking out because that means she is up against Holly for the 2-on-1.
Back at tea, Chelsea gets a rose and the other girls are sad. Or pissed (Ashlee and Robin).
One-on-One:
Commercials are over and Amanda is primping for her date with a sever case of the “meeps.” She hopes that Matt doesn’t think she is too reserved and is going to show him her fun side tonight. He picks her up in some 1950’s style car (which is pretty awesome) and takes her to a 1950’s diner. It’s pretty “cheeseball” according to Matt, but he thinks she’s cool and they talk about his geek side. Then, he shows off his geek side by dancing, terribly, with Amanda and they laugh and have a good time at his expense. They are really cute and good together. I think laughter is the key to a good relationship. Oh, and communication.
Back at the mansion, Holly and Marshana’s date box arrives. The other girls get pretty catty again and Marshana freaks out some more. She doesn’t think it’s fair she has to go up against Holly since she already had a one-on-one date with Matt and so has had more time to show him her true self.
Back to Amanda and Matt. Amanda, yay, gets a rose and then she sucks his face off in a very full-of-tongue kiss. They go on a roller coaster (woo!) and he thinks she is great fun. They go on a romantic ferris wheel ride and she says she’s falling for Matt and hopes he feels the same.
Two-on-One:
The two girls pack and my husband likes Holly because she doesn’t say “I think I’m falling for Matt.” Instead, she says, “I like him a lot and hope he feels the same.”
Matt is nervous because he likes them. They seem genuine and caring people and hold the characteristics he is looking for in a wife. He asks them at dinner if they’d be willing to move to the U.K. And both talk about how they would do it for him. Then he decides it’s easier to get to know them better if they aren’t in the same general vicinity.
Marshana gets alone time first and he says she’s been a really good sport and shown how sensitive and caring she can be. She talks about how her parents played a role in how she turned out the way she is and why she is here and says, “No guts, no glory, right?” They kiss and she giggles. She feels comfortable and like she can be herself with him.
Next is Holly. They talk about his boring side and she says she has one too because she likes to curl up and watch movies. He wants her to ask him a challenging question and she can’t think of any, so I think she’ll get booted (boo!). She professes that she cares for and likes him.
Meanwhile, Shayne thinks Holly will return and the other girls say they don’t want to speculate.
Matt doesn’t want to choose, but has to give the rose to someone. It goes to Marshana (of course, Holly was being dull tonight). He feels a close connection with her and wants to get to know her better. Holly leaves pretty tactfully (though gets lots of crying limo shots) and feels stupid. The girls are shocked when the random guy comes in and takes her luggage away (since that means Marshana is coming home). Matt and Marshana make out under the full moon footage they always use during every season.
Cocktail Party:
The girls are really stressed and Amanda meeps even though she has a rose already. The whole place is tense and Matt walks in with a purpose and makes everyone even more tense. He interviews that he will be asking them really “testing” questions.
Ashlee: he wonders if there can be more than looks and music. She says they should have a full day together and find out. Kiss of death, not answering the question. He asks, “What if your music doesn’t take off if you move to me in London?” She says, “It could work out. Something would work…” and again, doesn’t answer the question.
Noelle: she doesn’t feel confident (and with lack of editing footage, I fear she leaves even though she seems nice and not annoying). She tells him she’s holding up and that she doesn’t “put it out there” easily. He wonders if there could be something special with her.
Kelly: he scolds her for plopping on the couch and folding her arms (bad body language) and he sees her as the fun girl, but that she only shows that to the other women in the house. Which, of course, she proves him wrong by showing him her bra. Nice. It didn’t work when Stacey gave him her underpants, so why would it work now? Oh, she’s drunk, that’s why. She thinks they need more time together, he’s weirded out, I say she’s going home.
Shayne: she’s very attached to Matt, and not really concerned about other women. She really wants him to know how much she likes him and they make out (so she’s staying, apparently).
Chris Harrison! I think Robin, Shayne, Ashlee get roses (though I hope Ashlee goes and Noelle stays instead).
Short commercial break!
Rose Ceremony:
As we already know, Amanda, Chelsea, and Marshana are safe. First rose goes to Shayne (of course). Second goes to Robin (boo). Oh my gosh! I think Matt wrote the answers on his hand! Last goes to Noelle (whoa! Something went my way!) Ashlee and Kelly must leave. Kelly says good luck then interviews that he made a mistake. Ashlee cries a lot (so you should have been more forthcoming with your answers, and more mature) then interviews that she can’t believe he’s sending her home. She wants to find someone that will see more than “just a songwriter” which I could understand, but then she sings her way out. If you don’t want to just be a songwriter, then stop showing that as the only thing worthy about you.
Next week, they leave L.A. For Sun Valley (and skiing) and there is a “shocking confrontation” (woo!). I rank the remaining girls as such:
1. Amanda
2. Noelle
3. Chelsea
4. Shayne
5. Marshana
6. Robin
I hope Amanda sees it through and I hope we see more of Noelle. That’s all folks! Have a nice week!

Good review Gretchen. You are very fair and that is refreshing. I think you have the list correct - at least for the ones we like - but I think Shayne is going to be a little higher up in the standings.
Is it me, or did you find Matt a little cold yesterday - not really making eye contact…
Thanks for the review
