Tuesday night the American Idol top 8 performed songs which have inspired them personally. I thought the finalists made some poor song choices as a result. They picked songs which inspired them but were not necessarily the best songs for them to be singing. Last year they didn’t send anyone home during the Idol Gives Back week. The performers weren’t so lucky this year. This morning, I predicted that the bottom three would be Syesha Mercado, Carly Smithson, and Brooke White. I had two out of three correct.
The first contestant called to the stage was Brooke White who Ryan sent to the sofa. Right off the bat I was wrong on that one. I was glad when he told Kristy Lee Cook that she was safe. She had a great performance this week and she could use a week or two out of the bottom three. I was not surprised that Syesha and Carly were in the bottom three. I was shocked when Ryan told Michael Johns was in the bottom three. While Dream On was not the best song choice for him, compared to the other contestants i thought his was one of the better performances last night. Guess I was wrong.
This Week’s Bottom Three:
- Syesha Mercado
- Carly Smithson
- Michael Johns
I really thought Syesha was going home tonight. So, when Ryan sent her to the sofa, I had a bad feeling. I think everyone thought it would be Carly going home. I know Carly did. Did you see her face when Ryan announced who was safe and who was going home? Carly was shocked. Obviously so was Michael. When asked afterwards, Paula and Randy seemed somewhat surprised that Michael was the one going home. Simon of course is never surprised (at least he never admits it).
Say goodbye to Michael Johns America.
Next week the American Idol top 7 take the stage again. Be sure to come back to get our view and discuss the results.
