As if you didn’t have enough to Tivo tonight, The Deadliest Catch fourth season premieres tonight on the Discovery Channel. I’m really excited. This is definitely one of my favorite shows on TV. If you haven’t ever seen this show before, The Deadliest Catch is awesome:
Each year, hundreds of fishermen converge on Dutch Harbor, Alaska, for the beginning of the Alaskan king crab season. While at sea, they face nearly 24-hour shifts for days at a time, in less than optimal conditions: 40-foot waves, 80-mph winds, subfreezing weather and 700-pound crab pots slamming against the deck — not to mention a nearly 100 percent injury rate. But the payoff can be huge: Well-placed pots can collect millions of dollars worth of highly prized king crabs … or just enough crabs to cover the boat’s operating expenses. Whatever the take, the men and their families will feel the effects for the rest of the year.
You may read this and scoff, but once you start watching it you wont want to miss an episode. I have even gotten my wife hooked on this show.
In the opening episode, entitled Get ‘Em Back Safe!, the crab fleet prepares to head out into the Bering Sea. All of your favorite captains and crews are back including Captain Sig of the Northwestern, Captain Phil Harris of the Cornelia Marie, and Captains Jonathon and Andy Hillstrand of the Time Bandit. Two new ships also join the chase this season, the North American, captained by Sten Skaar and the Erly dawn captained by Rick Fehst. The Deadliest Catch Season 4 premiere airs tonight on the Discovery Channel at 9/8c.
