The top 7 American Idol finalists got cut to six tonight. My predictions from this morning were a bit off but, I don’t think there were any big surprises tonight. Before the results were announced, Mariah Carey sang and they showed this week’s Ford Music Video. I liked Mariah’s song. The Ford Music Video which had the idols as puppets in an office environment was kind of lame this week.

Ryan did something a little different tonight. As he called the finalists out, he split them into two groups. On the right side of the stage was Jason Castro, Carly Smithson, and Syesha Mercado. On the other side of the stage was David Cook, Kristy Lee Cook, and Brooke White. When Ryan called out David Archuleta, I figured that he would send him to the group that was safe. Instead, Ryan just told David he was safe. Then he tried to make David pick which group was safe. David being the nice boy that he is refused and sat between them. Before Ryan made the final determination, he made David Cook switch with Syesha. Once he did that you knew which group was safe. They made the switch because everyone knew David Cook was going to be safe.

This Week’s Bottom Three:

• Syesha Mercado
• Brooke White
• Kristy Lee Cook

I actually thought this was one of Syesha’s better weeks. I had thought it was going to be Carly instead of Syesha. Brooke was not a surprise. She did not have a good week this week. Kristy Lee Cook did a great job this week but I didn’t think her song was going to resonate with a wide audience. Apparently, it resonated with a lot fewer folks than even I expected. Kristy Lee Cook was the American Idol finalist going home tonight.
